Appearance
A lean, pale human man with a shaved head, narrow gray eyes, and a wiry, disciplined build. His forearms are marked with tiny geometric scars from years of pressure-point practice. He wears dark red and black monk's robes beneath a weathered traveling cloak, with a bronze symbol of Bhaal concealed beneath his collar. His hands are meticulously clean, his fingernails filed to precise points, and his expression is usually calm enough to be unsettling.
Mannerisms
Veyr speaks softly and rarely raises his voice. He maintains unnervingly steady eye contact, pauses before answering as though measuring the listener's pulse, and touches two fingers to the inside of his wrist whenever he hears someone describe pain.
Personality
Quiet, observant, and unnervingly courteous, Veyr treats every conversation as an examination. He remembers small physical details about everyone he meets, especially old injuries, nervous habits, and dominant hands. He presents himself as a humble religious traveler, but beneath the restraint is a patient sadist who believes terror reveals a person's truest nature.
Ideals
Sacrifice. Every life is an offering, and the worth of an offering is measured by the fear and meaning invested in its ending.
Bonds
The hidden temple that raised me is my true family. I will protect its surviving priests and restore its secret workshop, no matter how many enemies must be silenced.
Flaws
I mistake cruelty for clarity and cannot resist proving that I understand a person's weaknesses better than they do. I become dangerously offended when someone treats murder as a crude act rather than a sacred art.

Background
Born in a crowded district where disappearances were common and the watch was slow to care, Veyr Malachar was given to a secluded temple of Bhaal after his mother died and his father vanished. The priests taught him that murder was not merely an act, but a sacrament, and that true devotion required patience, precision, and an appreciation for fear. Veyr proved unusually gifted at studying the body. He learned where a nerve could be struck to numb a limb, where a tendon could be pinched to collapse a knee, and how to leave a victim conscious while rendering them helpless. The temple called this discipline the Quiet Benediction.
“Veyr proved unusually gifted at studying the body.”
