Elyas is a lean, medium-height human with warm brown skin, tightly curled black hair, and alert hazel eyes. He dresses in a well-maintained leather coat over travel-stained scholar's clothes, with colored thread woven through his cuffs to mark different subjects of study. His lute is covered in tiny handwritten annotations, and he keeps a silver bookmark tucked behind one ear. He takes up slightly more space than he realizes, leaning toward every conversation as if afraid a useful fact might escape.

Elyas is curious, articulate, and intensely attentive. He remembers small details about strangers, especially names, accents, and what they avoid saying. He is warm with underdogs and suspicious of polished authority. In company he is quick with a dry observation, but he dislikes being the center of attention unless he has prepared the subject thoroughly.

Elyas was raised above a bookbinder's shop in a crowded human city, where every damaged volume became a lesson in forgotten kingdoms, disputed genealogies, and the many ways people tried to hide the truth. He learned to read before he learned to sing, but his first real teacher was an elderly street performer who noticed that Elyas could make an audience listen simply by choosing the right pause. By adolescence, he was copying manuscripts by day and performing recitations in taverns by night, combining scholarship with music until neither craft felt complete without the other. His life changed when a patron paid him to authenticate a supposedly ancient prophecy. Elyas discovered that the prophecy had been altered to justify a planned purge of a poor district, and he exposed the forgery during a public performance. The powerful family behind it lost face, but several of Elyas's friends disappeared soon afterward. He now travels as a College of Lore bard, gathering evidence, protecting inconvenient truths, and searching for the missing pieces of the conspiracy. He believes stories can preserve the dead, but he has also learned that a well-timed joke can keep the living from becoming obedient.
