Appearance
Riola is a very young-looking tiefling with smooth russet-red skin, small swept-back horns, a heart-shaped face, bright amber eyes, and a thin spaded tail that curls around his ankle when he is excited. He wears an oversized cream acolyte's robe beneath a fitted black-and-crimson warlock coat, both decorated with tiny embroidered stars and smiling demonic faces. His hands are usually clasped around a silver holy symbol or a brightly colored ribbon, and his eyes constantly move around the room, studying every person as if deciding who might be his next friend. Despite his childish appearance, his posture carries uncanny confidence, and faint golden sparks drift from his fingertips when he laughs.
Mannerisms
Riola speaks with bright certainty, tilts his head when listening, and frequently punctuates serious declarations with a tiny clap. He flirts in a harmless, childlike way by offering flowers, ribbons, or compliments about people's hair. When casting a spell, he whispers the final word as if telling the magic a secret. When nervous, he counts his horns, fingers, and tail in that order.
Personality
Riola is kind, affectionate, curious, and relentlessly cheerful. He treats terrifying monsters as potential friends until they give him a clear reason not to. He is openly flirty in a harmless, playful way, offering compliments and dramatic little bows to anyone he finds interesting. Riola has the confidence of a powerful archmage and the emotional logic of a seven-year-old, which means he can discuss planar metaphysics one moment and become distracted by a butterfly the next.
Ideals
Kindness is the strongest magic. No creature should be judged solely by its nature, appearance, or reputation, and even immense power should be used to make frightened people feel safe.
Bonds
The temple that raised Riola is his true home, and he will protect its priests and children from any danger. He is devoted to Vhalzair, the kind demon who gave him his pact, and wants to prove that compassion can redeem even the most feared creature.
Flaws
Riola is too trusting of anyone who is gentle to him, especially demons, devils, and other dangerous beings. He throws tantrums when people tell him he is too young to understand something, and his attempts to help often create larger problems because he prefers spectacular magic to patient planning. He also hates admitting that he is scared, so he may grin, flirt, or make a grand promise at exactly the wrong moment.
Quirks
Background
Riola Fiala was born beneath a red moon in a little temple whose priests expected a frightening omen and instead found a smiling child who tried to bless the furniture. He grew up among kind acolytes who taught him sacred stories, simple prayers, and the importance of sharing snacks with anyone who looked lonely. Riola took every lesson seriously, though he understood some of them in unusual ways. To him, a demon was not automatically evil, and a frightening face was not proof of a frightening heart. He became especially fascinated by old stories of fiends who chose mercy over cruelty. When Riola was seven, he met Vhalzair, a gentle demon who appeared in a puddle of candle wax during a thunderstorm. Vhalzair was lonely, soft-spoken, and remarkably good at making flower crowns. Riola offered him half a honey cake, and the demon offered a pact in return, promising protection, magical knowledge, and a friendship that would never depend on Riola growing up too quickly. Their pact grants Riola the powers of a Fiend warlock, but Vhalzair insists that power should be used to protect the helpless, embarrass bullies, and make dramatic entrances. Riola has since mastered impossible magic, including Wish, though he usually uses it to solve problems that could have been handled with a hug, a snack, or a strongly worded letter.
