Appearance

Spectre stands six feet two inches tall, with a lean, athletic build shaped by constant movement and combat. His devilishly handsome face bears a day's worth of dark stubble, framed by neatly trimmed short brown hair and sharp, perceptive eyes. He wears obsidian black studded leather armor beneath a heavy hooded black wool cloak trimmed with black and brown fur. A silver clasp fastens the cloak at his throat. Although he carries the bearing of a nobleman, there is something unsettlingly ageless in his expression.

Mannerisms

He speaks with smooth, polished diction touched by British aristocracy, rarely raises his voice, and gives people his complete attention when they speak. He often adjusts the silver clasp at his throat before making a difficult decision. In combat, he smiles faintly, counts enemy breaths under his own, and turns his head toward sounds others have not noticed.

Personality

Spectre is effortlessly charming, attentive, and polished, making people feel uniquely understood while revealing almost nothing of himself. Beneath the charm is a quiet detachment and a calculating intelligence that misses very little. He carries himself with aristocratic confidence, bordering on arrogance, yet his disciplined restraint prevents it from becoming vulgar. He is fascinated by impossible phenomena, hidden histories, and the precise moment when fear becomes obedience.

Ideals

Order. The world is cruel because it is disordered. Every person, debt, promise, and secret has a proper place, and Spectre will impose structure when mercy alone is insufficient.

Bonds

He is bound to the nameless children still living in the alleys where he was raised. Spectre secretly funds shelters, bribes guards, and eliminates predators who prey upon the helpless. He also searches for the truth behind the first death he survived, believing that someone or something has repeatedly pulled him back from the threshold of oblivion. The strange artifacts he carries may be fragments of that mystery, relics connected to realms beyond the mortal world.

Flaws

His confidence borders on arrogance, and he rarely admits uncertainty even when the unknown is genuinely dangerous. Spectre treats emotional intimacy as a vulnerability, manipulates conversations with effortless charm, and sometimes allows innocent people to believe he is more mysterious and powerful than he truly understands himself to be. He is also dangerously willing to test the limits of his immortality.

Quirks

He remembers the names of street children, servants, and guards while deliberately forgetting the names of nobles who bore him.
He collects keys from places that no longer exist.
He pauses for one breath before answering any question about his age or death.
He occasionally addresses his own shadow as though it were an old companion.
He can identify most creatures by the rhythm of their footsteps.

Background

Spectre remembers the city before he remembers his parents. He grew up beneath bridges, in abandoned chapels, and among the forgotten service tunnels beneath noble estates. As an urchin, he learned to read people before he learned to read books, stealing food from careless merchants and secrets from careless aristocrats. His first teacher was an old street fighter who taught him that balance was more important than strength, and that a person who controlled their breathing could control a room. When that teacher died, Spectre discovered that grief could become discipline if given enough time and silence.
