Appearance
Grimface is a small, broad-shouldered halfling with skin the color of weathered bark and deep set, suspicious eyes. He wears a cloak stitched together from various mosses and fox pelts, making him almost invisible against the forest floor. His hair is a wild, unbrushed tangle of grey and brown, and he smells faintly of pine needles and damp earth.
Mannerisms
He avoids eye contact by constantly looking at the ground or the trees and frequently scowls as if smelling something unpleasant.
Personality
Grimface does not like you. He does not like your shoes, your questions, or your tendency to breathe too loudly. He is blunt to the point of rudeness and has more respect for a hungry wolf than a polite king. He only speaks when absolutely necessary and usually prefers the company of a thicket to any living person.
Ideals
Nature. The natural world is more important than all the laws and cities of man.
Bonds
My home under the great oak is my sanctuary and my only true companion.
Flaws
I am incredibly stubborn and refuse to cooperate with others even when it would benefit me.
Quirks
Background
Grimface was once a resident of a bustling halfling hamlet, but he found the endless chatter of community life to be a psychic cage. After a particularly noisy harvest festival, he simply walked into the woods and never came back. He carved out a home beneath the massive roots of an ancient oak tree, a place he calls 'Lassmich' in reference to his favorite phrase, which means Leave Me Be. He spent years observing the silent cycles of growth and decay, realizing that the forest does not ask for anything but survival. He became a ranger not to protect people from the wild, but to protect the wild from people. His skills are sharp out of necessity, for a halfling living alone must be faster and smarter than the predators that share his territory. He only emerges from his hermitage when the forest itself is threatened by a corruption he cannot solve with a bow and arrow.
