Appearance
Albert gon is a lean human man with sun-browned skin, unruly dark brown hair, and a thoughtful face that seems perpetually halfway between amusement and suspicion. He wears layered traveling robes beneath a weather-stained gray cloak, with small bundles of dried herbs tied to his belt. A battered leather journal is always tucked beneath his left arm, its lower corner polished smooth from years of being pressed against his ribs. When waiting, Albert rests most of his weight on the balls of his feet, as if he expects the ground itself to shift and wants to be ready when it does.
Mannerisms
Albert taps the polished corner of his journal whenever he is thinking. He speaks to plants before harvesting them, pauses to examine unfamiliar dust or stains, and often begins explanations with the phrase, "Strictly speaking," even when no correction is necessary.
Personality
Albert is curious, compassionate, and cheerfully irreverent toward tradition. He enjoys explaining obscure discoveries to anyone who will listen, but becomes intensely focused and nearly impossible to distract when confronted with a magical anomaly. He is more comfortable treating a fever than making small talk, and he tends to regard social awkwardness as a solvable research problem.
Ideals
Knowledge should be shared when lives are at stake. Secrets belong to no one person when the safety of the innocent is involved.
Bonds
The village child Albert saved still sends him clumsy drawings and pressed flowers. He considers the child proof that knowledge is valuable only when it is used to protect people.
Flaws
Albert is convinced that most authorities are either dangerously ignorant or secretly hiding information. He also has a habit of pursuing an interesting magical mystery long after common sense tells him to stop.
Quirks
Background
Albert gon spent eleven years living alone in a small woodland shelter, where he studied the boundary between natural life and arcane energy. He began as a wandering scholar with a fascination for medicinal plants, but his research changed after he found a circle of blackened mushrooms growing in a perfect ring around a stone that had fallen from the sky. The stone whispered in dreams, not with words, but with images of stars arranged in patterns no human astronomer had recorded. Albert copied those patterns into his journal and slowly realized they described a prison beneath the earth, one that was weakening. His solitude ended when a fever-stricken child from a nearby village was brought to his door. Albert used a dangerous combination of herbal remedies and improvised magic to save the child, revealing himself to the villagers and attracting the attention of a local mage. The mage recognized the star patterns as evidence of an ancient arcane seal and offered Albert formal instruction in wizardry. Now Albert travels beyond his hermitage, seeking forgotten libraries, unusual minerals, and anyone who might know what lies beneath the seal. He is determined to protect ordinary people from a threat they cannot see, even if doing so requires breaking rules, trespassing in forbidden places, or stealing knowledge from those who would hoard it.
