Appearance
Elara has skin the color of a coming storm and hair like bleached driftwood. Her left eye is a swirling vortex of seawater blue, a mark of her patron. She wears salt-crusted leather armor adorned with small shells and bits of dried kelp. A constant, faint scent of brine and ozone follows her wherever she walks.
Mannerisms
Elara constantly fiddles with a gold coin tied to her wrist. When she is angry, the water in nearby cups or puddles begins to vibrate and ripple.
Personality
Elara is as fickle as the sea itself. One moment she is the calm before the storm, quietly observing with a terrifying intensity, and the next she is a literal whirlwind of action. She speaks in maritime metaphors and has a grim sense of humor that involves the various ways a person can drown.
Ideals
Freedom. The sea is the only place where no king can claim you, and I will never let the land chain me again.
Bonds
My loyalty lies with the Drowned Anchor. We survived the depths together, and we will thrive on the surface together.
Flaws
I am terrified of being in places where I cannot see or hear the open water, it makes the whispers in my head grow too loud.
Quirks
Background
Six years ago, Elara was the navigator of the 'Silver Gull' when a freak storm known as the Kraken's Maw descended upon them. As the ship split in two, Elara felt something cold and ancient reach up from the abyss. She didn't pray to the gods. She shouted a bargain into the dark water, offering her service for the lives of her remaining crew. The 'Silver Gull' sank, but its crew did not die. They emerged from the surf days later as the founding members of 'The Drowned Anchor'. Their ship, now a patched-together vessel of wreckage and coral, sails through mists that should not exist. Elara serves as the crew's spiritual anchor and navigator, guided by the whispers of the depths. She hunts for treasures lost to the sea, believing that everything the water takes belongs to her master. The Drowned Anchor is more than a crew to her. It is a family forged in salt and pact-magic.
“As the ship split in two, Elara felt something cold and ancient reach up from the abyss.”
