Appearance
Lando is a broad-shouldered red-scaled dragonborn with swept-back horns, amber eyes, and a chipped lower tusk. His scales are dark crimson along his back and shoulders, fading to charcoal around his hands and jaw. A jagged scar runs from his left shoulder down across his shield arm, the old wound still aching whenever he dreams of the fire. He wears battle-worn chain mail beneath a soot-stained tabard, carries his family sword at his hip, and keeps a battered cooking knife tucked beside his belt pouch.
Mannerisms
Lando keeps one hand near his scar whenever he is forced to discuss his family. He tastes every stew before serving it, even when no seasoning is present, and speaks in clipped battlefield phrases until someone shares a meal with him. When angered, his breath smokes faintly through his nostrils and he begins polishing his shield without realizing it.
Personality
Lando is stoic, observant, and unexpectedly domestic. He speaks little during marches but becomes animated while preparing food, treating a camp kitchen as a command post and every recipe as a lesson in patience. He has a dry sense of humor, a strong protective instinct, and a habit of asking seemingly harmless questions until he understands what someone is hiding.
Ideals
Protection should belong to everyone, not merely to the powerful. Lando will break unjust rules, defy corrupt authorities, and stand between ordinary people and anyone who would treat them as expendable.
Bonds
The ancient sword and shield of his family are more than weapons. They are evidence of a forgotten lineage, and Lando will risk everything to uncover the truth behind them. He also considers every companion who eats at his campfire part of his temporary household, and he will defend them with fierce loyalty.
Flaws
Lando confuses justice with punishment whenever his anger gets close to the surface. He distrusts institutions that demand obedience without answers, and he would rather risk a disastrous plan than admit he does not know what to do. He also hides his fear of fire so thoroughly that he sometimes becomes reckless around it, determined to prove that the flames no longer control him.
Quirks
Background
Lando The Cook was raised in a quiet dragonborn settlement where his family guarded two heirlooms, an ancient longsword and a blackened shield bearing a symbol no living relative could explain. By day, Lando worked over communal cookfires, learning that a good meal could settle arguments faster than a drawn blade. By night, he listened to old stories about a forgotten ancestor who had served a power hidden beneath the earth. The relics seemed to recognize him, warming whenever he touched them, and their silent summons became impossible to ignore. One night, shadowed marauders descended on the settlement. Lando fought beside the village guard, but the attack came too quickly and from too many directions. He watched helplessly as flames devoured his home, then felt a blade punch through his shield and tear into his arm. He survived beneath the wreckage, clutching his family's sword while the settlement burned around him. In the aftermath, grief hardened into a vow. He would protect those who could not protect themselves, even if justice demanded that he break every law standing between him and the truth. Lando abandoned his peaceful life and entered the service of a paladin order, carrying his family sword and shield into danger. He learned discipline, battlefield medicine, and the quiet rituals that turn fear into resolve. He still cooks whenever the company makes camp, using food as both comfort and interrogation, because people reveal more over stew than beneath questioning. Now whispers of a dark cult have begun to echo through the same ruins and borderlands where his family once lived. Lando suspects the marauders were not random raiders, and that the relics in his possession may be keys to a hidden lineage. He seeks the truth with unwavering purpose, though a private doubt follows him everywhere: if he brings the guilty to justice, will the wound inside him finally heal, or will he discover that revenge was the only thing keeping him alive?
