Appearance
Cedran is a lean human man with a narrow, composed face, dark brown hair worn neatly swept back, and pale gray eyes that rarely settle on the person speaking. He dresses in well-maintained black and charcoal clothing beneath a fitted leather coat, with polished boots and gloves chosen for quiet movement. He stands with most of his weight on the balls of his feet, as if every room contains an exit he may need to reach first. Around strangers he occupies very little space, but he has an unsettling habit of positioning himself where he can see every door and everyone’s hands.
Mannerisms
Cedran silently counts doors, windows, and visible weapons whenever he enters a new room. He removes his gloves finger by finger before making an important decision, then puts them back on when the decision is made. When someone lies to him, he does not interrupt. He simply becomes more polite.
Personality
Cedran is restrained, observant, and unfailingly courteous, especially when he is angry. He prefers bargains to threats because a bargain creates a record of what someone is willing to surrender. He notices small practical details, remembers everyone’s price, and treats trust as a temporary contract rather than a feeling.
Ideals
Order. Freedom without structure is merely permission for the strongest predator to feed first. A controlled system is kinder than chaos, provided Cedran is the one holding the reins.
Bonds
The quiet criminal network he built is his true inheritance, and he will destroy anyone who threatens its members or exposes its ledgers. He also keeps one sealed account book belonging to his father, convinced it contains the name of the official who ruined his family.
Flaws
Cedran cannot leave a power structure alone once he notices its weaknesses. He manipulates allies even when honesty would be safer, and he has difficulty accepting help unless he can immediately identify what the other person expects in return. If forced to choose between mercy and control, he nearly always chooses control.
Quirks
Background
Cedran Halric was born in a crowded human river district where laws were written for merchants and enforced against everyone else. His mother kept accounts for a shipping house, and his father worked as a porter until a missing cargo was blamed on him. Cedran learned early that guilt mattered less than paperwork, witnesses, and who could afford to make a magistrate look elsewhere. By sixteen, he was carrying messages for a burglary ring. By twenty, he had become the person the ring trusted to plan an operation, identify the weak link, and decide who would be sacrificed if the plan failed. Cedran eventually turned on his first employers, not from remorse, but because their leadership had become inefficient and reckless. He arranged their arrests through forged records, redirected their hidden funds, and took control of the surviving network under the protection of a respectable merchant whose secrets Cedran now keeps. He calls his organization a necessary correction to corrupt law, but his true ambition is colder. He wants a city in which every crime is licensed, every official is owned, and every person understands exactly what obedience costs. His current adventuring work is both investment and reconnaissance, allowing him to gather leverage, identify useful allies, and determine which institutions are most ready to be broken and rebuilt under his command.
