Appearance
Lean and sea-worn, with sun-browned skin, a sailor's knot of dark hair tied back with prayer cord, and sharp blue eyes that seem to measure the weather before the sky does. He wears practical scale mail beneath a weathered cloak patched with temple cloth and old ship canvas, and carries a holy symbol worn smooth from salt, rain, and nervous fingers. His hands are scarred from rope, rigging, and healing work alike.
Mannerisms
He taps two fingers against any wooden surface like he is listening for distant surf, and unconsciously sways when standing still, as if the deck is moving beneath him. When tense, he smiles at the worst possible moment, like someone who learned long ago that storms are easier to face when you grin at them first.
Personality
Warm, stubborn, and difficult to intimidate, Vinny speaks with the easy confidence of someone who has survived worse than most people can imagine. He jokes like a dockhand, prays like a monk, and treats every act of kindness as something sacred enough to defend with a mace.
Ideals
Mercy should be fierce enough to survive the world. The strong have a duty to shield the abandoned, and faith means nothing if it refuses to get wet, bloody, or lost in the alley with the rest of us.
Bonds
He owes his life to Dame Red and still carries her memory like a second heartbeat, determined to honor the woman who gave a doomed child a future.
Flaws
He can be reckless when children, the helpless, or anyone trapped by authority is threatened, and he sometimes confuses righteous instinct with wisdom. He also struggles to trust institutions, especially when they claim mercy but act like gatekeepers.
Quirks
Background
Vinny was never meant to begin life with a name, only with a hiding place. His family smuggled themselves into the city of Harborgate, but the infant was discovered later, tucked between barrels of vintage wine in the hold. Dame Red, pirate captain and legend to some, reckless mother to others, took one look at the child and named him Vinny after the place where he was found. She raised him aboard her ship, and for eighteen years the sea was his cradle, his school, and his only honest home. Then plague came aboard with the contraband goods, and the crew began to fall. By the time the ship limped into port, half the pirates were already dead or dying. Dame Red, near the end herself, begged the temple healers to save her favorite vintage and give the boy a chance to become something other than a death sentence in human form. The priests, unwilling at first to aid a notorious pirate brood, finally relented. Vinny was healed, taken in, and taught the sacred arts. The crew that remained chose a final blaze of fury over surrender, and their deaths still haunt him like thunder after lightning. Now Vinny walks the line between holy order and salt-stung chaos, serving in the undercity where the forgotten gather. He heals the poor, shelters orphans, and brings divine wrath down on anyone who preys on the powerless. The temple taught him mercy, but the sea taught him that mercy without courage is just another kind of prayer unanswered.
