Appearance
Boro is a broad, seven-and-a-half-foot-tall goliath with slate-gray skin, a heavy brow, and thick black hair worn in a short, uneven braid. His build is powerful but weathered rather than imposing, with the stoop of someone accustomed to carrying packs, wounded soldiers, and firewood. Pale mineral markings trace his shoulders and upper arms in the pattern of his stone-giant ancestry. He smells faintly of leather oil, woodsmoke, and the bitter tea he drinks before dawn. Before speaking, he usually draws a slow breath through his nose and clears his throat once, as if making sure his words are worth the air they require.
Mannerisms
Boro pauses before answering difficult questions, inhales through his nose, then clears his throat once. He counts doorways and exits under his breath, keeps his hands open when speaking to frightened people, and taps the butt of his spear three times before a fight.
Personality
Boro is quiet, patient, and practical. He is kinder in action than in speech, repairing a stranger's boot or standing watch through the night without mentioning it. He dislikes boasting, polished officers, and people who confuse loudness with courage. In peaceful company he has a dry, understated humor, often making observations so flatly that listeners need a moment to realize he was joking.
Ideals
Protection. Strength is only honorable when it is used to carry someone who cannot stand alone.
Bonds
The villagers he saved still send him small gifts, and he considers their survival a debt he can never fully repay. He also carries the cracked bronze button from the uniform of the officer who first taught him that orders and goodness are not always the same thing.
Flaws
Boro obeys the shape of an order even when he has lost faith in the person giving it. He is slow to admit fear, slower to ask for help, and can become frighteningly stubborn when someone treats vulnerable people as expendable.
Quirks
Background
Boro grew up among a traveling goliath clan that moved between high passes and lowland work camps. He was never the strongest climber or the fastest runner, and his elders noticed that he often hesitated before a contest. What they mistook for weakness was caution. Boro listened to the stone underfoot, watched the weather, and remembered which paths had swallowed travelers in the past. He learned that surviving a hard life was less about winning every challenge than about making sure everyone reached the other side. As a young adult, Boro joined a frontier levy after soldiers protected his clan from a raiding band. He spent years as a shield bearer, camp laborer, and eventually a line breaker, learning to fight with a spear and greatsword. During one disastrous retreat, his commanding officer ordered the unit to abandon a group of wounded villagers. Boro disobeyed, carrying three people through a burning supply yard while the rest of the soldiers withdrew. He was stripped of rank, but the villagers lived. Since then, he has worked as a wandering guard and troubleshooter, using the fury that rises in battle to put himself between danger and people who cannot withstand it.
