Appearance
Zesstra is a lean, dark-skinned drow woman with pale silver hair kept in a practical braid, secured by a tarnished copper clasp that she polishes obsessively. Her charcoal-gray clothes are well cut but visibly repaired, with mismatched stitching at the cuffs and knees. She wears a slightly oversized studded leather coat whose inner pockets are arranged with almost clerical precision. Within a minute of meeting someone, it becomes clear that her attention rarely rests on their face. She watches hands, doorways, reflections, and the objects people unconsciously protect.
Mannerisms
She angles herself toward exits without appearing to do so, pauses before answering simple questions, and quietly repeats the last few words of a lie as if weighing them. When thinking, she rubs the copper clasp in her braid with her thumb.
Personality
Zesstra is observant, restrained, and dryly courteous. She dislikes grand gestures, loud confidence, and anyone who confuses secrecy with intelligence. Although she presents herself as emotionally detached, she notices small discomforts quickly and will quietly solve a stranger's problem before admitting she cared. Her humor is understated and often arrives several seconds after everyone else has stopped talking.
Ideals
Truth is a weapon, and the powerful have no right to complain when it is turned against them. Freedom means having enough knowledge that nobody can own your choices.
Bonds
She carries a coded ledger containing the names of people her family exploited, and she intends to undo every debt recorded in it. She is also quietly searching for the missing client whose disappearance began her exile.
Flaws
Zesstra cannot resist testing a person's honesty, even when silence would be safer. She hoards information, assumes every kindness has a hidden price, and becomes coldly vindictive when someone treats a vulnerable person as disposable.
Quirks
Background
Zesstra learned early that a locked door was rarely the true obstacle. The obstacle was usually the person who believed the door mattered. Raised among drow merchants who trafficked in rare dyes, coded contracts, and carefully measured favors, she became the family’s quiet observer and occasional courier. She discovered that her talent was not merely in moving unseen, but in noticing the moment someone’s confidence cracked. A glance toward a hidden purse, a hand that hovered near a knife, a lie told with too much detail, these were the seams she learned to pull apart. Her family eventually used her as a discreet agent in surface settlements, where her dark skin and reputation made secrecy difficult but not impossible. Zesstra survived by constructing identities rather than hiding from the truth. During one assignment, she uncovered evidence that her own relatives had arranged the disappearance of a harmless surface-born client who had refused to sell them a valuable trade route. Instead of returning the evidence, she stole it, forged her own death, and vanished. Now she works as an investigator, confidence artist, and occasional thief, choosing contracts that expose predators who believe money or rank makes them untouchable. She insists that she is only correcting an imbalance, though she keeps every name and secret in a private ledger that grows heavier each year.
