Appearance
Ulysses is a wood elf with sharp, angular features and a skin tone like aged parchment. His eyes are a piercing, cold amber, reminiscent of a hawk. He wears dark, forest-green studded leather that is worn thin at the joints, tailored for maximum mobility. Across his back is a bandolier of silver-capped bolts and a specialized holster for his owl-themed hammer. He moves with a silent, unnatural grace that suggests he is constantly assessing his exits.
Mannerisms
He constantly checks the tension on his crossbow string when he is bored or waiting.
Personality
Ulysses is a man of professional detachment. He treats every hunt like a ledger to be balanced, showing neither malice toward his targets nor joy in his successes. He speaks with a soft, steady voice and never wastes words. He is extremely disciplined, often practicing his quick-draw techniques for hours during his trance, viewing himself more as a precise instrument of fate than a person.
Ideals
Efficiency. Every action should be precise, wasting nothing including life if it is not required by the contract.
Bonds
My gear is my life. These weapons are the only things I have truly chosen for myself and they never fail me.
Flaws
I have no personal investment in morality. I would track down a saint just as easily as a murderer if the coin was right.
Quirks
Background
Ulysses spent his first century as a guardian of the high forest, but a betrayal within his enclave led him to realize that nature's laws were no more sacred than those of the city. After leaving his kin, he settled in the sprawling underworld of Waterdeep, serving as a high-tier enforcer for the Shadow Thieves. He quickly earned a reputation for efficiency, never failing a contract regardless of the difficulty. Eventually, the bureaucracy of a guild proved too stifling, and he struck out on his own as a freelance asset. Now, he operates in the shadows of society, bridging the gap between the wild lands and the urban concrete. He uses a pair of signature weapons, a crow-beak hand crossbow for silent removal and an owl-headed light hammer for direct confrontation. He is known to take any contract, whether it involves tracking a monster into a swamp or removing a political rival from a ballroom. To Ulysses, gold is the only universal language, and a contract is the only sacred bond.
