Appearance
A sturdy lightfoot halfling man with a broad, weathered face, thick dark-brown hair kept close at the sides, and a neatly trimmed beard threaded with a few silver hairs. His hands are unusually memorable, broad-palmed and rough from years of fieldwork, cooking, hauling stone, and maintaining farm tools. The knuckles are callused, and his fingernails are permanently stained with soil and lampblack. He wears practical chain mail beneath a faded green surcoat, with a polished shield bearing a simple sheaf of wheat. In any room, his eyes go first to the exits, then to the nearest frightened person, and only afterward to whoever is speaking.
Mannerisms
Sheshan lowers his voice when angry rather than raising it. He checks door latches with his thumb, straightens crooked table settings without thinking, and quietly counts people whenever a group enters a dangerous place.
Personality
Sheshan is patient, hospitable, and quietly observant. He prefers solving problems with food, practical work, and a firm offer of shelter before drawing steel. He has an instinctive tenderness toward frightened animals, exhausted labourers, and anyone trying not to cry in public. Beneath his calm manner is a stubborn core of courage that becomes unmistakable when someone smaller or weaker is being bullied.
Ideals
Protection. The strong owe shelter to the vulnerable, not obedience from them. A life is measured by the people who sleep safely because you stood watch.
Bonds
The people of his home village trusted him when fear had made everyone else reckless. He will risk almost anything to protect their harvest, their children, and the dignity of those who cannot defend themselves. He also keeps the broken iron latch from the old mill as a reminder that courage is useful only when it serves others.
Flaws
He is too willing to believe that honest effort will eventually win over anyone, even people who have repeatedly shown cruelty. When someone under his protection is threatened, his caution disappears and he can turn a manageable danger into a personal crusade.
Quirks
Background
Sheshan grew up in a halfling farming hamlet tucked between two stony ridges, where every family measured wealth in stored grain, repaired roofs, and neighbours who would answer a knock after dark. He learned to cook before he learned to read, and he became known for feeding travellers who had little to offer in return. His quiet life changed when a band of raiders seized the village mill and threatened to burn the winter stores. Sheshan organized the farmers, redirected an irrigation channel beneath the raiders' camp, and led a midnight charge through the mud. He carried the miller out on his back and held the gate until help arrived, earning a reputation as the small man who stood where larger men had fled.
