Appearance
Rose is a lean tiefling woman with deep crimson skin, swept-back charcoal horns, and a long tail she keeps wrapped like a sash when she is trying to look formal. Her eyes are bright ember-gold, her hair is dark and usually tied back with a strip of faded red cloth, and she wears practical soldier’s gear that has been carefully mended more times than replaced. The faint scent of smoke seems to cling to her, especially when she is anxious or angry.
Mannerisms
Rose stands at parade-rest when listening, even in taverns. She speaks with clipped military precision when nervous, then softens her voice the moment she notices someone is afraid. She unconsciously taps two fingers against her spear haft when thinking, like she is keeping time for a march no one else can hear.
Personality
Rose is calm under pressure, quietly compassionate, and unexpectedly stubborn. She does not seek praise, but she notices small acts of decency and remembers them for years. In a crisis she becomes focused and practical, yet away from danger she is dryly witty, awkward with compliments, and secretly fond of harmless luxuries like good tea, polished boots, and honest music.
Ideals
Mercy through strength. Power should exist to protect the helpless, not to lord over them. She believes the surest way to honor survival is to make room for others to survive too.
Bonds
She still carries a dented signet token from her old unit, and she will not abandon anyone who reminds her of the frightened recruits she once protected. If her former squad calls for help, she answers.
Flaws
Rose takes slights too personally and struggles to ask for help, even when she is clearly overmatched. When someone speaks with cruel certainty, she can become reckless trying to prove them wrong. She also has a habit of assuming that if she can endure something, everyone else should be able to endure it too.
Quirks
Background
Rose was born under a bad omen, or so the villagers said when a horned child arrived with eyes like banked coals. Her family never treated her as cursed, but the world often did, and so she learned early that kindness could be louder than fear. When bandits and border raids began taking lives from the roads around her home, Rose enlisted not for glory, but because someone needed to stand between ordinary people and the next fire. She never became the strongest soldier in the line, but she became the one who stayed standing after the shouting stopped. Her years in service taught her discipline, formations, and the brutal usefulness of a spear in the right hands, but they also taught her that orders are not the same thing as justice. Rose walked away after one too many commands that treated lives like coin. Now she travels as a fighter for hire, guardian, and stubborn shield for the vulnerable. She keeps her devilish legacy close but refuses to let it define her, turning every accusation of fiendish blood into another reason to prove that mercy can be just as fierce as war.
