Appearance
Goonbald Nutsack is an enormous gray-skinned goliath with storm-blue eyes, black hair braided with bits of sea glass, and a broad, heavily scarred frame. He wears simple sailor's clothes beneath a weathered monk's sash, and his knuckles are wrapped in faded strips of sailcloth. A jagged white birthmark runs from his left temple to his jaw, resembling a lightning bolt.
Mannerisms
Goonbald rolls his shoulders before making important decisions, taps rhythms on nearby wooden surfaces like a sailor checking a hull, and loudly announces the name of every maneuver before performing it.
Personality
Goonbald is boisterous, fiercely loyal, and startlingly sincere. He laughs at danger, offers unsolicited lifting assistance, and speaks to waves as though they are old drinking companions. Beneath his bluster is a disciplined student who genuinely wants to protect people and prove that a goliath's worth is measured by what he supports, not what he can break.
Ideals
Freedom. No mountain, monastery, captain, or king has the right to decide where a living soul must stand. Everyone deserves the chance to choose their own course.
Bonds
I owe my life to the crew of the Dawn's Folly, and I will never abandon sailors in danger. I also carry a splinter from the ship's broken mast as a reminder of the destruction I caused.
Flaws
I mistake being loud for being persuasive, and I become dangerously competitive whenever someone questions my strength. I also have no patience for subtle plans that take longer than a single breath.
Quirks
Background
Goonbald Nutsack was born among a high mountain goliath clan where every day was a contest of endurance. He was strong enough to haul an adult goat up a cliff face, but his temper made him a poor fit for the clan's rigid traditions. During a winter storm, he became separated from his hunting party and was rescued by a merchant vessel that found him clinging to a shattered mast. The crew expected a silent giant. Instead, they gained a loud, stubborn deckhand who learned to tie knots, read waves, and punch pirates overboard with equal enthusiasm. Years at sea taught Goonbald that strength without discipline merely creates bigger problems. After accidentally breaking a ship's mainmast during an argument, he was taken in by a wandering monastery whose abbot believed that a crashing wave and a charging goliath were both powerful forces that could be redirected. Goonbald now travels as a monk, seeking worthy causes, honest companions, and the perfect balance between a controlled breath and an absolutely unnecessary headbutt. He still considers the sea his first home, and he treats every ship's crew as extended family, whether they appreciate it or not.
