Appearance
Corgis is a broad-shouldered gray-skinned orc standing just over six feet tall, with sharply pointed ears, prominent lower tusks, and a mane of dark hair tied into a high, carefully maintained knot. His soldier's clothing is practical but visibly repurposed, with a too-small red military coat worn open over a soot-darkened linen shirt and reinforced trousers tucked into mismatched boots. He keeps one immaculate brass buckle polished bright enough to catch firelight, while the rest of his gear bears cheerful stitching, scorched hems, and patches cut from old banners. His expression is intense at first glance, but his eyes are alert, curious, and unexpectedly warm.
Mannerisms
Corgis performs tiny pieces of military drill whenever he is thinking, such as turning a cup exactly ninety degrees or aligning his boots beneath his chair. Before a fight, he announces a needlessly grand battle title in a solemn voice. When embarrassed, he polishes his brass buckle and pretends the conversation has become a tactical briefing.
Personality
Corgis is boisterous, protective, and relentlessly sincere. He treats every minor errand as a military operation and every new acquaintance as a potential comrade. He loves campfire stories, terrible tactical metaphors, and being asked to explain equipment that he barely understands. Beneath his loud confidence is a thoughtful man who notices when people are frightened and quietly positions himself between them and danger.
Ideals
Freedom. No banner, commander, god, or tradition has the right to make a person into fuel. Strength matters most when it is used to give others a choice.
Bonds
I owe my life to the soldiers who stood beside me when I refused an unjust order, and I will never abandon a companion who depends on me.
Flaws
He mistakes confidence for competence and charges into danger before anyone can explain the plan. He is also deeply uncomfortable admitting that he does not understand something, so he will confidently invent an explanation involving military strategy, ancestral wisdom, or controlled fire.
Quirks
Background
Corgis was raised among an orc warband that crossed wide grasslands in search of work, territory, and stories worth carrying home. He joined a settled kingdom's army as soon as he was old enough, partly to prove that an orc could serve without becoming someone's monster, and partly because the army promised regular meals. He excelled at close combat, field exercises, and carrying wounded comrades through terrain where wagons could not go. His habit of shouting dramatic names for every maneuver earned him the nickname Lord of Flames after he set a siege engine alight during a night exercise, then insisted the blaze had been tactically intentional. When his unit was ordered to burn a rebellious village, Corgis refused to follow the command after discovering that the supposed rebels were families protecting their own homes. He broke ranks, helped the villagers escape, and was dismissed rather than executed because several soldiers testified that he had saved their lives during the retreat. Now he travels as a mercenary and protector, seeking causes that deserve his strength. He still thinks like a soldier, counting exits, checking supplies, and sleeping lightly, but he has decided that loyalty belongs to people rather than uniforms.
