- Magical TinkeringLevel 1
You can imbue mundane objects with minor magical properties, such as producing light, recording a short message, emitting an odor, or displaying a visual effect. You can maintain a number of such effects equal to your Intelligence modifier, and one effect can be active on an object at a time.
- SpellcastingLevel 1
You use Intelligence as your spellcasting ability. You can cast artificer spells through tools, and you can use a spellcasting focus such as thieves' tools, tinker's tools, or another set of artisan's tools with which you are proficient.
- Infuse ItemLevel 2
You learn to infuse mundane objects with replicable magical properties. At 2nd level, you know four infusions and can maintain two infused items. Your known infusions and maximum active infusions increase as you gain artificer levels. At 14th level, you know ten infusions and can maintain five active infused items.
- Stringbound CompanionLevel 3
You gain proficiency with woodcarver's tools. You create a Stringbound Puppet, a Small or Tiny construct that occupies its own space and obeys your commands. The puppet has hit points equal to 5 + five times your artificer level, for a total of 75 hit points at this level. It uses your proficiency bonus for its attacks and abilities, acts on your initiative after your turn unless you command otherwise, and follows your verbal or telepathic commands. Its exact movement, defenses, and attack are determined by the Puppeteer class mechanics.
- Tool ExpertiseLevel 6
You can use your thieves' tools or any artisan's tools with which you are proficient as a spellcasting focus. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses a tool with which you are proficient.
- Interposing ThreadsLevel 6
Your Stringbound Puppet's attack is magical, and the puppet gains proficiency in all saving throws. When you cast an artificer spell with a range of Touch, you can have the spell originate from the puppet instead of yourself, provided the puppet is within the spell's range requirements. The puppet also gains the defensive benefits specified by the Puppeteer subclass's Interposing Threads feature.
- Magic Item AdeptLevel 10
You can attune to up to four magic items at once. Crafting a magic item with an appropriate tool takes one quarter of the normal time and costs half as much gold. You can also ignore class, race, spell, and level requirements when attuning to or using a magic item, though you must still satisfy any other requirements.
- Choreographed AssaultLevel 10
You can control the Stringbound Puppet with astonishing precision. The puppet gains a climbing speed equal to its walking speed and can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without making an ability check. Its attacks and movement can be coordinated with your commands to create a more effective battlefield presence, as defined by the Puppeteer subclass.
- Magic Item SavantLevel 14
You can attune to up to five magic items at once. You ignore all class, race, spell, and level requirements on attuning to or using a magic item, and you can use a magic item even if it does not normally allow your type of creature to do so, subject to the item's other requirements.
- Ability Score ImprovementLevel 4
You gain an Ability Score Improvement feat or another feat for which you qualify at 4th level. This character increases Intelligence by 2, raising it to 16.
- Ability Score ImprovementLevel 12

- Artificer Spellcasting ProgressionLevel 1
Your proficiency bonus is added to the puppet's attack rolls and relevant saving throws. Your artificer spellcasting and subclass features use Intelligence.
- Constructed ResilienceWarforgedYou have resistance to poison damage and advantage on saving throws against being poisoned. You are immune to disease, do not need to eat, drink, or breathe, and magic cannot put you to sleep.
- Sentry's RestWarforgedYou do not need to sleep. When taking a long rest, you can spend six hours in an inactive, motionless state while remaining conscious of your surroundings.
- Integrated ProtectionWarforgedYour body incorporates armor and defensive plating. You can don or doff armor normally, and your frame can be integrated with armor at the DM's discretion. Your AC benefits from your equipped armor and shield.

- Living ConstructWarforgedHealing magic affects you normally, despite your constructed nature. You can be restored by spells and abilities that restore hit points.
- ResearcherSage
You have devoted years to studying forgotten records, magical traditions, and ancient civilizations. When you do not know a piece of information, you usually know where and how to find it, provided the knowledge exists in a book, archive, ruin, or knowledgeable community.

Appearance
Moses is a weathered Warforged with a narrow wooden faceplate, brass-rimmed eyes, and dark iron plating worn smooth by years of excavation. His left shoulder bears a faded geometric mark from the ancient city where he awoke. Fine copper wires run from his wrists to a collection of small carved puppets stored in a lacquered case at his hip. His clothing combines a scholar's long coat, reinforced leather straps, and a dust-stained scarf wrapped around his neck. Several tiny marionettes perch on his shoulders and backpack, each built from mismatched pieces of ancient automatons.
Mannerisms
Moses pauses before answering difficult questions, then makes a tiny puppet repeat the question in a distorted whisper. He conducts conversations with subtle finger movements, as if directing an invisible orchestra. When thinking, he taps two fingers against his breastplate in a steady rhythm, like a metronome.
Personality
Moses is patient, observant, and intensely curious. He treats every ruin as a conversation waiting to be finished and every machine as a potential survivor. He is gentle with living creatures, precise with tools, and unsettlingly calm in combat. Though he speaks formally, his puppets express emotions he rarely shows himself, giving his companions the impression that they are traveling with an entire troupe rather than one quiet construct.
Ideals
Purpose is not assigned, it is built. Every creature deserves the chance to choose what it becomes, even a construct created for war.
Bonds
The ruins of the ancient city are my birthplace, my archive, and the only place that may reveal who created me. I will protect its remaining secrets from those who would exploit them, while recovering every lost construct I can restore.
Flaws
I cannot leave broken constructs, discarded mechanisms, or damaged automatons behind, even when repairing them is dangerous or foolish. I also distrust anyone who claims to know what I was made for, because part of me fears they may be right.

Background
Moses awoke beneath the collapsed observatory of a city that had been dead for centuries. His first memories were fragments, a command spoken in an unknown language, the sensation of strings pulling against empty air, and the distant echo of machines grinding themselves to silence. He emerged from the rubble with no master, no purpose, and no name. The scholars who found him called him a curiosity, but Moses soon became their most tireless assistant, cataloging inscriptions and reconstructing broken devices from the ruins around him. He gathered pieces of ancient automatons wherever he traveled, collecting bronze fingers, crystal lenses, porcelain masks, and lengths of enchanted wire. From these fragments he built his first puppets, crude little figures that moved when he gestured and seemed to remember things he did not. Over time, the puppets became more precise, more expressive, and more capable. Moses discovered that each one could carry a sliver of his will, allowing him to defend others, manipulate the battlefield, and reach places his own armored frame could not. Now he travels as a wandering sage and relic hunter, searching for the lost city that made him and the command that first gave him life. He believes that somewhere beneath its ruins lies the missing piece of his own memory, and perhaps the answer to whether he was created to serve, to conquer, or to choose his own purpose.
“He emerged from the rubble with no master, no purpose, and no name.”
