Spectre makes a melee attack against every creature within 5 feet, with a separate roll for each target.

  • Fluid FocusLevel 17

    When On his turn

Spectre uses supernatural focus to act through instinct and spectral echoes, gaining his Fluid Focus benefits.

  • Timeless BodyLevel 18

Spectre can use an action to enter the Astral Plane, as though using astral projection, without material components. He can do so once per long rest, or again by spending 8 ki.

  • Empty BodyLevel 18

Spectre can use an action to become invisible for 1 minute, gain resistance to all damage except force, and make one additional attack when taking the Attack action. He can spend 4 ki to use this feature again before finishing a long rest.

Bonus action

  • Flurry of Blows

When After taking the Attack action

Spectre makes two unarmed strikes as a bonus action after taking the Attack action with a monk weapon or unarmed strike.

  • Patient Defense

    When On his turn

Spectre takes the Dodge action as a bonus action, imposing disadvantage on attacks against him and granting advantage on Dexterity saving throws.

  • Step of the Wind

    When On his turn

Spectre takes the Dash or Disengage action as a bonus action. He can amplify this with ki to double his movement and triple his jump distance.

  • Martial ArtsLevel 1

Martial arts allow Spectre to use Dexterity for unarmed strikes and monk weapons, roll a d10 for unarmed strike damage, and make an unarmed strike as a bonus action after attacking with a monk weapon or unarmed strike.

  • KiLevel 1

Spectre can use a bonus action to make two unarmed strikes, take the Dodge action, or Dash and Disengage. He can spend 1 ki to gain additional benefits when amplifying these techniques.

When Hit by a ranged weapon attack

Spectre reduces incoming ranged weapon damage and may catch or throw the missile.

Always on

  • Unarmored DefenseLevel 2

Spectre gains proficiency in Strength and Dexterity saving throws. If already proficient, he may choose another saving throw proficiency.

  • Unarmored MovementLevel 2

While unarmored and not wielding a shield, Spectre's movement speed increases by 10 feet. This bonus improves to 20 feet at 6th level, 25 feet at 10th level, and 30 feet at 14th level.

  • Monastic TraditionLevel 3

Spectre's monk tradition grants the Spectral Attack features listed below.

  • Unarmored Movement ImprovementLevel 9

Spectre can run across vertical surfaces and across liquids during his movement without falling during that movement.

  • Diamond SoulLevel 14

Spectre gains proficiency in all saving throws. He can spend 1 ki to reroll a failed saving throw and must use the new result.

  • Timeless BodyLevel 15

Spectre no longer suffers the frailty of old age and cannot be magically aged. He also no longer needs food or water.

  • Perfect SelfLevel 20

Spectre gains four attacks whenever he takes the Attack action on his turn.

  • Immortal KiLevel 3

When reduced to 0 hit points or subjected to an instant-death effect, Spectre can make a Constitution saving throw with DC 10 plus the number of times he has been dropped. On a success, he regains hit points equal to his monk level plus Constitution modifier plus 12 hit points per ki spent. On a failure, he may revive by expending all remaining ki. If he has no ki or declines, the triggering effect resolves normally.

  • Ki AmplificationLevel 6

Flurry of Blows, Patient Defense, and Step of the Wind no longer require ki. Spectre may spend 1 ki to amplify Flurry of Blows with advantage, cause attacks against creatures that miss him during Patient Defense, or double his movement and triple his jump distance with Step of the Wind.

  • Spectral AssaultLevel 11

Spectre gains one additional attack when taking the Attack action and one additional strike when using Flurry of Blows.

  • Spectral EvasionLevel 17

While Fluid Focus is active, whenever Spectre is hit by an attack, he rolls a d20. If the result equals or exceeds the attacker's unmodified d20 roll, the attack misses regardless of its final total.

Appearance

Spectre stands six feet two inches tall, with a lean, athletic build shaped by constant movement and combat. His roguishly handsome face bears a day's worth of dark stubble, framed by neatly trimmed short brown hair. His perceptive eyes seem to notice everything. He wears a high-collared black doublet with silver embroidery, a crisp white shirt with ruffled cuffs, dark trousers, polished black boots, and a heavy black wool cloak trimmed in black and brown fur. A silver clasp fastens the cloak at his throat. His clothing suggests the authority of a noble lord without ostentation.

Mannerisms

Spectre speaks in a smooth, polished aristocratic cadence, often pausing before answering as if selecting the exact pressure point in a conversation. He adjusts his silver cloak clasp when considering violence, maintains unbroken eye contact when lying, and rarely turns his back on an open doorway. When amused, he gives a faint one-sided smile rather than laughing.

Personality

Spectre is effortlessly charming, observant, and emotionally reserved. He makes people feel fascinating and valued, yet reveals almost nothing about himself. His confidence borders on arrogance without fully becoming it. He is disciplined, patient, and intensely perceptive, with a quiet preference for precise plans and controlled outcomes. Beneath his noble bearing remains the wary instinct of a child who learned that kindness can be bait.

Ideals

Order. The world is cruel because power is allowed to become chaotic. Every person, ruler, and supernatural force must be placed within a structure that prevents arbitrary harm, even if that structure demands obedience.

Bonds

The forgotten children of the streets are under his protection. He also carries a silver clasp recovered from the monastery where he first defied death, and he will risk anything to learn who, or what, taught him to return.

Flaws

Spectre believes almost every relationship is a future liability. His confidence can become arrogance, and he is quick to manipulate people who mistake his charm for vulnerability. He has an unhealthy fascination with death, especially his own, and may take impossible risks simply to prove that mortality still cannot claim him.

Quirks

Counts doorways and exits whenever he enters a room.
Keeps a pet mouse named Vesper in his cloak.
Uses the names of dead enemies when practicing forms.
Can identify most poisons by scent alone.
Sometimes answers questions asked by his own spectral echo before answering himself.

Background

Spectre remembers hunger more clearly than he remembers his birthplace. As a boy, he survived in the narrow streets of a great city by stealing only what he needed, learning to read a person's intentions from the angle of a shoulder or the direction of a glance. His first lessons in martial discipline came from an old street fighter who taught him that balance was more valuable than strength and that a person who controlled their breath could control a room. When his teacher died, Spectre transformed those lessons into a private philosophy of perfect motion. Years later, he vanished beneath the foundations of a ruined monastery and returned speaking of distant realms, impossible geometries, and echoes of himself that moved a heartbeat out of sequence. He claims that death has taken him several times and failed to keep him. Whether this is supernatural truth, an elaborate lie, or both, his mastery of space and spectral afterimages is undeniable. He now travels as a mysterious nobleman, using refined manners and effortless charm to conceal the instincts of a survivor. Spectre protects the abandoned and dispossessed when doing so serves his carefully ordered sense of justice, but he remains distant from nearly everyone, convinced that affection is a chain and that every chain eventually becomes a weapon.
