- Sneak AttackLevel 1
She uses a pool of dice to deal extra damage once per turn when she has advantage on the attack roll, or when another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it and she does not have disadvantage. At 20th level, Sneak Attack deals 10d6 extra damage.
- Thieves' CantLevel 1
She knows the secret mix of dialect, gestures, and coded hints used by thieves and criminals to convey hidden messages to one another.
- Thief ArchetypeLevel 3
At 3rd level, Varenia adopts the Thief archetype, becoming especially skilled at burglary, agility, and quick hands.
- Uncanny DodgeLevel 5

At 6th level, she gains expertise in two more of her proficiencies, further honing her chosen specialties.
- EvasionLevel 7
At 7th level, she can nimbly dodge out of the way of certain area effects, taking no damage on a successful Dexterity saving throw and only half damage on a failed one.
- Second-Story WorkLevel 3
At 3rd level, she gains an additional 10 feet of climbing speed, and she can use running jumps more effectively after a short movement.
- Supreme SneakLevel 9
At 9th level, she gains proficiency with the disguise kit and the forgery kit, and her speed is unaffected by climbing.
- Use Magic DeviceLevel 13
At 13th level, she can use magic items even if they are normally restricted by class, race, or level, and can ignore the race, class, and level requirements on the use of magic items.
- BlindsenseLevel 14
At 14th level, she becomes so elusive that no attack roll has advantage against her while she isn't incapacitated.
- ElusiveLevel 15
At 15th level, she is exceptionally hard to pin down. Attack rolls against her do not gain advantage merely because she is hidden or otherwise difficult to target, and when she is subjected to an effect that requires a Dexterity saving throw, she takes no damage on a success and half on a failure, even if incapacitated. In addition, she cannot be surprised while she is conscious.
- Stroke of LuckLevel 17
At 17th level, if she misses with an attack or fails an ability check or saving throw, she can turn the failure into success once per short or long rest.

Appearance
Varenia is a drow woman of striking, otherworldly beauty, with polished obsidian skin and a lithe, wiry frame standing 5'8" tall. Her hair is a sharp asymmetrical bob, pure silvery white on one side and shaved close on the other, and her eyes are mismatched, one iris white and the other purple, both luminous and unsettling in dim light. Long pointed ears are lined with silver piercings. She moves with silent, dancer-like precision. In modern clothes, she favors matte black synth-leather, a sleeveless high-collared jacket with silver magnetic clasps, a dark charcoal top, tapered black trousers, and noiseless boots, with a utility belt of hidden tools and a curved dagger at her back.
Mannerisms
Varenia speaks softly and only after a long, considering pause, as if every word is being weighed for both truth and usefulness. When listening, she tilts her head slightly and fixes people with one luminous eye at a time. She often taps the silver chain at her throat when planning a theft or deciding whether to trust someone.
Personality
Varenia is calm, incisive, and deeply observant, with a dry sense of humor that surfaces only around people she trusts. She is protective of the vulnerable, impatient with cruelty, and happiest when she has a plan, a route, and at least one hidden escape. Beneath her composure lies a fierce streak of defiance and an almost devotional belief that the powerless deserve a champion.
Ideals
Freedom. No one should be owned, frightened, or caged by birth, power, or prejudice. She steals from those who hoard control and gives opportunities to people the world has overlooked.
Bonds
She owes her life to the first surface family that hid her when the hunters came, and she will protect ordinary people with a ferocity that surprises even her. She also keeps an obsidian pendant from her first true rescue, a token she touches before every dangerous job, as if to remind herself who she became.
Flaws
She trusts her own instincts too much and dismisses caution when a cause feels righteous. Varenia also has a hard time refusing a plea for help, even when it clearly puts her in danger. Under stress, she becomes cold and surgical, pretending not to care so no one can see how deeply she does.
Quirks
Background
Varenia was born in the dark places beneath the world, where survival meant learning to move unseen and strike only when victory was certain. She was never the most obedient child among her people, and that single flaw became her salvation. A tunnel collapse, a slaver raid, and a burning feud between rival houses left her separated from the Underdark and stranded on the surface, where she discovered that daylight was not the only thing that could wound, pride could as well. Instead of returning to a life of chains and whispered cruelty, she chose a different path, one built from stolen keys, open gates, and the quiet redistribution of power. Among surface settlements, Varenia earned a folk hero's reputation not through banners or speeches, but through impossible infiltrations, rescued captives, and the collapse of local tyrants who believed themselves untouchable. She became the woman people called when a magistrate was crooked, a gang was extorting the market, or a monster had convinced a village it was helpless. Her thief's craft evolved from petty survival to precision heroism. Every lock she opens, every purse she lightens, every secret she exposes is another small rebellion against the world that tried to own her. She wears modern black practical clothing now, but every silver clasp and hidden blade still carries the memory of a life spent fleeing darkness by learning how to command it.
