Appearance
Vesperine is a pale white Tiefling with smooth ivory skin, swept-back white hair, delicate swept horns, and purple eyes flecked with tiny points of silver that resemble a night sky. She wears layered white and lavender robes embroidered with lunar phases, a silver crescent holy symbol, and a fine lace veil that obscures the lower half of her face. Her tail is wrapped in violet silk during formal worship. Within a minute of meeting her, people notice her careful, bell-like voice and the way her breathing becomes shallow and measured whenever she feels watched or judged. Years spent tending temple roofs and moonlit shrines have left her hands weathered and faintly rough despite her otherwise immaculate appearance.
Mannerisms
She pauses before answering difficult questions, taking one slow breath through her nose as though listening for the moon's reply. She touches her crescent holy symbol whenever someone says the word monster. When anxious, she counts nearby sources of light under her breath. Her voice becomes unnaturally soft when she is angry, and her breathing turns shallow behind the lace veil.
Personality
Vesperine is quiet, observant, and unfailingly courteous, especially toward people who expect her to be cruel. She prefers the company of night watchmen, pilgrims, librarians, and other people who understand long silences. She is patient with fear in others but embarrassed by her own. Her compassion is practical rather than sentimental, expressed through bandages, shelter, careful questions, and a lamp left burning for someone who has not yet come home.
Ideals
Mercy is a light carried into darkness. No one should be condemned for their blood, ancestry, or the fear they inspire in others. Justice must protect the vulnerable, not merely punish the visible offender.
Bonds
She carries her parents' incomplete star charts and will risk almost anything to uncover the people responsible for their deaths. She is devoted to Selune and fiercely protective of any child, refugee, or outcast forced to hide their identity.
Flaws
She is ashamed of being a Tiefling and instinctively hides her horns, tail, and name whenever she believes judgment is near. Her need to appear pure can become dishonest, and she sometimes mistakes self-denial for virtue. When confronted with evidence connected to her parents' murder, her calm discipline can collapse into reckless fixation.
Quirks
Background
Vesperine was born beneath a winter moon to two Tiefling scholars who maintained a small observatory and shrine on the edge of a prosperous city. Her parents taught her that horns, tails, and infernal ancestry were neither proof of sin nor permission for cruelty. The city disagreed. When her parents began documenting the names of influential citizens who had persecuted Tieflings and other outsiders, someone arranged their deaths to look like a robbery. Vesperine survived because she had been serving at a distant shrine that night. The official investigation ended quickly, and the quiet certainty that powerful people had chosen her parents as a warning hollowed out her childhood. She took refuge among Selune's acolytes, initially seeking only a place where grief would not be treated as weakness. The moon goddess's teachings gave her a language for hidden paths, second chances, and guiding the lost through darkness. Vesperine became a priest, healer, and investigator, learning to protect others without becoming consumed by vengeance. She still veils her face and conceals her heritage whenever she can, ashamed of how easily strangers associate her with the sins of fiends. At the same time, every life she saves is a quiet refusal to let hatred define her. She now travels beneath moonlight, following rumors connected to her parents' deaths and offering sanctuary to anyone hunted for what they are rather than judged for what they do.
“Her parents taught her that horns, tails, and infernal ancestry were neither proof of sin nor permission for cruelty.”
