Appearance
A broad-shouldered goliath standing just over seven feet tall, with weathered gray-brown skin marked by pale stone-colored birth lines along his arms and throat. His black hair is kept short with a single rough braid behind his left ear. A broken iron ring hangs from a cord around his neck, and his hands are thick with old scars, calluses, and ground-in ash. He carries himself like a laborer who learned to make every movement count.
Mannerisms
Khurdan counts doorways, exits, and nearby bodies whenever he enters a room. He rolls his shoulders before speaking to an authority figure, as if preparing for a heavy lift. When angry, he becomes quieter rather than louder. He addresses children and animals with formal military courtesy.
Personality
Quiet, dependable, and intensely observant. Khurdan is slow to trust but quick to help, especially when someone is carrying too much, frightened, or being pushed around by a stronger person. He speaks plainly, dislikes boasting, and has a dry sense of humor that appears without warning. In battle he becomes frighteningly focused, but outside combat he prefers useful work, hot food, and a place near the wall.

Duty is not obedience. It is the promise to stand between danger and the people who cannot stand against it themselves.
Bonds
He will return one day to the mountain villages he saved and rebuild the watchtower that was destroyed during the retreat. He also keeps the names of every soldier and civilian who died there, carved into the handle of his greataxe.
Flaws
He cannot let an unjust order go unanswered, even when obedience would be safer. When someone praises his strength, he becomes suspicious and assumes they intend to use him. He also has a habit of treating every disagreement like the beginning of a siege.

Khurdan Veyr was raised among a traveling goliath work-clan that hauled stone, repaired mountain roads, and built watchtowers for settlements below the high passes. His people valued strength, but not for display. A strong back kept a roof standing, a steady hand saved a wagon from the ravine, and a person who could endure hardship without abandoning the others was worth more than any champion. Khurdan learned early to measure himself by what he could carry home, not by how loudly he could boast. When raiders began using the passes to strike isolated villages, Khurdan joined the local army as a shield-bearer and camp laborer. His size made him useful, but his patience made him trusted. He learned to march in bad weather, read a frightened crowd, and hold a line when everyone else wanted to run. During one disastrous retreat, his captain ordered the unit to abandon a group of wounded villagers. Khurdan disobeyed, carrying three people through a burning supply yard while the rest of his squad bought them time. The survivors lived, but his captain did not forgive him. Khurdan left the army with a broken rank badge, a greataxe issued by the quartermaster, and the conviction that orders are only worth following when they serve the people beneath them. Now he travels as a hired guard and adventurer, looking for the raiders who started that war and for a place where his strength can protect more than a single road.
