Appearance
Gravis is a broad-shouldered half-orc with dark green-gray skin, a heavy jaw, and a calm, watchful expression. His black hair is shaved close at the sides and gathered into a short topknot bound with red thread. He wears plain ash-gray monastic robes reinforced at the forearms and shins, with a faded green sash carrying small prayer beads and a stoppered clay vial of herbal tincture. He takes up more space than he realizes, standing squarely in doorways and sitting with his knees wide, but his movements become extraordinarily precise the instant danger appears.
Mannerisms
Gravis touches the clay vial at his sash whenever he hears someone cough or speak of illness. He counts his breaths under his breath before answering difficult questions, and when entering a room he unconsciously positions himself between the door and the smallest or most vulnerable person present.
Personality
Quietly attentive and unexpectedly gentle, Gravis listens as if every conversation were a lesson in survival. He has a dry sense of humor, a patient tolerance for frightened people, and a habit of offering practical help before emotional reassurance. He dislikes boasting but has no instinct for making himself smaller, often looming over others while sincerely believing he is being unobtrusive.
Ideals
Mercy must be strong enough to protect the helpless. True discipline is not suppressing power, but choosing exactly when not to use it.
Bonds
He carries his mother's herb pouch and considers it a promise to aid the sick, especially those abandoned by wealthier settlements. He is fiercely loyal to the mountain monastery that taught him discipline, and he will return whenever its people call for help.
Flaws
Gravis assumes that anyone who is loud, wealthy, or well dressed is hiding fear behind performance. He is slow to ask for help, quicker to endure needless hardship than admit uncertainty, and can become coldly judgmental toward people who waste food, medicine, or another person's trust.
Quirks
Background
Gravis was born in a border settlement where half-orcs were welcomed only when someone needed a strong back or a stronger fist. His mother, a traveling herbalist, taught him that every plant had a purpose and every living thing had a season. His father, a caravan guard, taught him to stand between danger and the people who could not withstand it. When both died during a winter fever outbreak, Gravis blamed his own helplessness and disappeared into the high valleys, carrying only his mother's herb pouch and a blunt practice staff. In the mountains, he found a secluded monastery whose doors were open to anyone willing to work, listen, and endure silence. The monks did not ask him to become less fierce. They taught him to make his fierceness deliberate. Over twelve years, Gravis learned to turn breath into momentum, pain into information, and anger into a warning bell rather than a weapon. His great discovery came when he realized that compassion was not the absence of violence. It was the reason to master violence so completely that it need not be used. He now travels beyond the monastery to protect isolated communities, investigate strange illnesses, and prove that strength is measured by what one refuses to crush.
