Appearance
Biran Warmcloak is a lean tiefling man with ember-red skin, swept-back black horns polished to a satin sheen, and eyes like banked coals that seem to appraise every room for its weaknesses. He dresses in stage-black finery trimmed with faded crimson, usually under a travel-worn cloak lined with hidden pockets and stitched notes. His grin is charming when he wants it to be, but it rarely reaches his eyes. He carries himself like a performer who expects an audience, even when he is alone.
Mannerisms
He speaks softly and waits for others to lean closer, then punctuates key points with a tap of two fingers against his lute or the hilt of his rapier. When amused, he smiles with only one side of his mouth. He never enters a room without first noticing the exits, the mirrors, and who is pretending not to listen.
Personality
Biran is polished, patient, and predatory. He enjoys fine music, expensive drink, and the slow unraveling of a rival's confidence. In conversation he is witty and attentive, but he always keeps one eye on what he can use, one hand on what he can steal, and one ear for the weak point in a person's voice.
Ideals
Power is nothing without control, and control is easiest when people believe they chose their chains. Biran values elegance, leverage, and the quiet ownership of influence over crude bloodshed.
Bonds
He keeps a lockbox of old playbills, handwritten letters, and a single cracked silver mask from the first troupe that ever gave him a stage. He will burn entire cities before he lets anyone destroy that box.
Flaws
He assumes everyone has a price, and he often mistakes that assumption for wisdom. When challenged, he would rather humiliate an enemy than destroy them cleanly, even when speed would be wiser. He is incapable of resisting an audience, a wager, or a flattering lie if it promises a better story.
Quirks
Background
Biran Warmcloak was born under a rain of sparks in a dockside alley where no one cared to count the cost of a tiefling child. He learned early that fear was useful, laughter was safer, and applause was the surest currency in a city that paid in lies. A street troupe found him first, then a succession of theater companies, gambling halls, and private salons that all discovered the same thing. Biran could make a room love him, or hate him, and either reaction opened doors. He refined that gift into art, singing ballads that made nobles weep while his eyes measured the weight of their rings and the looseness of their tongues. Years of travel taught him that every court hides a secret, every secret has a price, and every price can be negotiated. Biran stopped pretending he was in the business of beauty and began making a career out of leverage. He uses music to charm, gossip to bind, and humiliation to break rivals before they realize they are bleeding. He still loves a brilliant performance, but now he loves it the way a blade loves a whetstone, for the edge it gives him over everyone in the room. There are rumors that he has traded favors with fiends, stolen a prince's confession in verse, and ruined a saint with one perfectly chosen lyric. Biran denies nothing, which only makes the stories more useful.
