Appearance
Sakuro is a broad-shouldered human man with a weathered face, short dark hair kept regulation-neat, and a faint scar along one brow that never quite stopped tugging when he squints. He wears practical chain mail polished more out of habit than vanity, and he keeps his shieldless fighting stance crisp and economical, as if every movement were still part of drill. His voice is calm and clipped, with the posture of someone who expects to be obeyed and would rather earn that obedience than demand it.
Mannerisms
He stands at attention when listening, even in casual conversation. Before taking action, he taps two fingers against the seam of his gauntlet as if counting beats for a drill. When nervous, he cleans his weapon instead of speaking, and he always seats himself where he can see every exit.
Personality
Quietly steadfast, intensely disciplined, and unexpectedly compassionate, Sakuro speaks like a veteran who has learned that every unnecessary word wastes breath. He respects competence, keeps promises without needing to be reminded, and offers help in practical forms, a guarded road, a repaired strap, a watchful eye. He is slow to anger, but once he judges a cruelty as needless, his condemnation is cold and absolute.
Ideals
Duty, but not blind obedience. A lawful life should protect the helpless and restrain cruelty, so he follows rules that serve justice and refuses commands that wound the innocent.
Bonds
He keeps the insignia of his former unit wrapped in cloth inside his pack, and he will risk his life before letting it be dishonored. He also feels responsible for the civilians his old company once protected, and he still tries to send coin, letters, or aid to any settlement that was scarred by the war he fought.
Flaws
Sakuro struggles to trust improvisation, and he can become rigid when a plan is messy or a leader is indecisive. He also measures himself harshly, and when others fail under pressure he sometimes shoulders too much blame, as if any broken line is his personal fault.
Quirks
Background
Sakuro was raised in barracks before he was old enough to understand the difference between duty and destiny. His earliest memories are of wooden practice blades, shouted drills, and the stern satisfaction of falling into step with a line of older soldiers who expected nothing less than obedience, courage, and endurance. He was never the strongest recruit, nor the fastest, but he learned early that a soldier survives by discipline when talent fails. When his unit was sent to hold a border road against raiders, Sakuro discovered that lawful conduct could be more than commands from above, it could be a promise to the frightened people standing behind the line. By the time he earned his rank, Sakuro had become the kind of fighter officers relied on when the line wavered. He learned the spear, the bow, the greatsword, and the hard arithmetic of battle, when to press, when to fall back, and how to keep others alive long enough to win. A campaign ended badly, not because his side lacked bravery, but because someone with authority chose pride over prudence. Sakuro left the army with his honor intact and his faith in careless leadership badly shaken. Now he travels as an adventurer to prove that discipline, mercy, and courage can still stand together, and that a good soldier serves the people first, not the banner.
