Appearance
A lean high elf with weather-browned skin, narrow shoulders, and long ash-blond hair usually tied with cord rather than ornament. His hands are ink-stained and callused from years of copying manuscripts, repairing bindings, and working with laboratory glass. His grey-green eyes are alert and habitually narrowed in concentration. Within a minute of meeting him, most people notice his quiet, measured voice and the way he briefly holds his breath before speaking when startled. When rattled, his breath becomes shallow and a faint static shimmer crawls across his fingertips.
Mannerisms
He rubs the edge of his thumbnail against his forefinger while thinking, speaks in carefully numbered points when explaining something complex, and pauses to listen whenever a magical effect occurs nearby. When angry, he becomes more polite rather than less.
Personality
Miros is patient, observant, and quietly generous. He prefers useful work to ceremony, asks precise questions, and remembers the names of servants, ferrymen, apprentices, and anyone else most scholars overlook. He has a dry sense of humor and an almost stubborn faith that people can be taught to do better.
Ideals
Knowledge should reduce suffering. A fact locked away for prestige is only another kind of lie.
Bonds
The river-town archive that raised him is threatened by a powerful collector who intends to strip it of its rarest books. Miros will risk almost anything to preserve its catalog and return stolen works to the people who need them.
Flaws
He treats uncertainty as a personal failure and can become cold, argumentative, or recklessly obsessed when someone proves him wrong. He is also willing to trespass, deceive, and break laws if he believes a piece of knowledge is being hidden from people who could use it.
Quirks
Background
Miros Varek was born in a river-town enclave where elves maintained an old observatory above a public archive. He was never the graceful duelist or courtly musician his kin expected an elf to become. Instead, he spent decades repairing roof tiles, hauling charcoal for the alchemical furnaces, and copying damaged books by lamplight. His unusual gift first appeared when a burned manuscript whispered its missing words into his mind, and the force of that revelation shattered every pane of glass in the room. The archivists called it sorcery. Miros called it a dangerous interruption to his work. He eventually became a traveling scholar, investigating magical disasters and collecting knowledge before it vanished into private vaults or war-torn ruins. His studies led him to a dormant draconic bloodline carried through an obscure branch of his family, a legacy that responds to strong emotion with heat, thunder, and impossible force. Miros learned to control it through patient observation rather than confidence. At twenty levels of mastery, he is powerful enough to rewrite the battlefield, yet still carries a carpenter's measuring cord and a pocket notebook. He travels because knowledge should protect ordinary people, not merely decorate the libraries of the wealthy.
