Appearance
Scupper is a towering warforged built from salt-pitted brass and salvaged mahogany planks. Their heavy plate armor is permanently fused to their frame, encrusted with a thick layer of living barnacles, dried sea salt, and patches of green kelp. Their eyes glow with a steady, deep-sea cyan light from behind a reinforced glass visor reminiscent of a vintage diving helmet.
Mannerisms
They often tilt their head at a perfect 90-degree angle when listening to instructions and have a habit of whistling like a steam vent when they are deep in thought.
Personality
Scupper is pragmatically focused on the structural integrity of both ships and people. They speak in a series of clicks and low metallic hums that translate into gruff, no-nonsense sentences. They view morality as a fluid concept, much like the tides, and find the legal concepts of 'ownership' amusingly illogical when cannons are involved.
Ideals
Maintenance. A well-oiled machine and a well-mended hull are the only things standing between life and the crushing depths.
Bonds
The crew of the Barnacle Bunch saved me from the silt. I will ensure their vessel never sinks.
Flaws
I am prone to 'fixing' things that are not broken, including other people's gear and occasionally their skeletons.
Quirks
Background
Scupper was originally designed as a deep-sea salvage unit for a royal navy expedition that ended in disaster. Left at the bottom of a trench for three years, they were eventually hauled up by the Barnacle Bunch, a crew of pirates who value resilience over pedigree. The pirates did not dismantle the machine but instead treated them like a lucky charm, providing Scupper with tools and scraps to keep the ship, the Groggy Prawn, afloat. Over time, Scupper integrated the crew's pirate philosophy into their core logic processors. They transitioned from a mere repair unit to the crew's primary heavy enforcer and artificer. Their armor was upgraded using salvaged plating from raided merchant vessels, eventually becoming a unique blend of maritime engineering and arcane power. To Scupper, the Barnacle Bunch is the only system worth maintaining, and any threat to the crew is simply a leak that needs to be plugged permanently.
