Appearance
Nocc is a broad-shouldered female orc with moss-green skin, a heavy jaw, and long black hair braided with bits of bone, colored thread, and polished river stones. Her hands are thick and heavily callused from years of climbing, hunting, and splitting firewood, with blunt nails stained dark by soil and campfire ash. She walks with a loose, rolling gait that becomes startlingly still when she is watching prey. Her gear is practical and weather-worn, marked with faded trail signs, and she carries herself like someone who always knows where the nearest shelter is.
Mannerisms
Nocc scans every room by tracing exits with her eyes before she speaks. She tests unfamiliar ground with the toe of her boot, rolls her shoulders before danger, and taps the haft of her greataxe in a slow rhythm when impatient. Around a campfire, she quietly names the direction of the nearest river before going to sleep.
Personality
Nocc is blunt, observant, and fiercely practical. She dislikes crowded cities, complicated promises, and anyone who gives directions using only street names. Beneath her impatience is a deep instinct to protect the lost and inexperienced. She rarely offers comfort directly, but she will silently repair a companion’s pack, leave the warmest place by the fire open, or wake before dawn to check the trail.
Ideals
Freedom. No clan, king, priest, or mapmaker owns the road beneath my feet. People should choose their path, even when I think they are choosing badly.
Bonds
The high-valley trails are her family’s inheritance, and she will risk everything to keep them open to travelers, refugees, and clans in need.
Flaws
Nocc treats compromise as the first step toward surrender. When angry, she assumes that anyone asking her to wait is either afraid or lying, and she has a habit of leaving before a disagreement can become a plea for help.
Quirks
Background
Nocc was raised along a chain of high valleys where orc clans followed seasonal game and guarded the old trails between distant settlements. She learned early that survival was not about being the strongest person in the valley, but about noticing the weather before it changed, hearing a loose stone underfoot, and knowing which streams stayed clean after a storm. Her mother taught her the routes, while her aunt taught her to hunt with a spear and settle disputes with a firm hand and a louder voice. Nocc became a pathfinder, carrying messages, guiding travelers, and leading hunting parties through country where a wrong turn could mean days without shelter. When a winter migration failed and several clans were trapped beyond the passes, Nocc led a desperate expedition through avalanche country to find a forgotten lowland route. She returned with food, medicine, and survivors, but the journey changed her. She discovered that the fury she had always treated as a private shame could become a weapon when used to protect others. Now she travels beyond the valleys, taking work as a warrior and guide. She seeks roads no map records, old enemies who profit from closing them, and a place where she can decide for herself what loyalty means.
