Appearance
Bellatrix is a lean, poised tiefling woman with deep crimson skin, swept-back black horns, and long dark hair kept in an immaculate braided crown. Her amber eyes are steady and appraising, and her pointed tail is usually wrapped once around her ankle when she is standing still. She wears carefully maintained clerical vestments beneath practical scale mail, with a silver holy symbol polished bright enough to catch the light. Her voice is soft and measured, preceded by a brief pause as though she is deciding what each listener can afford to hear.
Mannerisms
Bellatrix pauses briefly before answering personal questions, as though pricing the truth. She smooths the edge of her holy symbol with her thumb while listening, keeps her posture perfectly composed during arguments, and lowers her voice when making threats so they sound like confidential advice.
Personality
Bellatrix is attentive, polished, and unfailingly courteous, especially when she is being manipulative. She listens more than she speaks, remembers what people fear, and offers comfort in a tone that makes every blessing sound like a business arrangement. She prefers leverage to violence, but she has no hesitation about using force when a transaction fails.
Ideals
Utility. The world does not reward goodness, it rewards those who can provide what others need. I will be indispensable, and therefore untouchable.
Bonds
The temple that raised Bellatrix is the closest thing she has to a home. She will protect its reputation and finances, even if doing so requires lies, blackmail, or sacrilege. She also keeps the small iron cradle token found beside her as an infant, determined to discover who abandoned her and why.
Flaws
Bellatrix assumes every kindness creates a debt and becomes genuinely suspicious when someone helps her without asking for anything. She is vain about her competence, quietly cruel toward the helpless, and prone to treating moral objections as evidence that someone is easy to manipulate.
Quirks
Background
Abandoned as an infant at the entrance to a small temple, Bellatrix was raised among incense, hymns, and stern lessons about service. The priests taught her that charity was sacred, but Bellatrix noticed that the most generous blessings were reserved for donors, nobles, and influential pilgrims. She learned to read scripture before she learned to read a person's face, and she quickly understood that faith was not merely devotion. It was leverage, reputation, and access to power. As she grew older, Bellatrix became the temple's most reliable acolyte, tending the sick, preparing funerary rites, and speaking comforting words to frightened worshipers. Her miracles began modestly, a prayer that eased pain, a blessing that steadied a trembling hand, but she soon discovered that people valued results more than sincerity. Now she travels as a cleric of the Trickery Domain, offering healing, protection, and divine favor for a price. She insists that her work is not mercenary. She is simply correcting the world's misunderstanding of grace. To Bellatrix, goodness is a story people tell when they cannot admit they were bought.
“She learned to read scripture before she learned to read a person's face, and she quickly understood that faith was not merely devotion.”
