Appearance
A small, sturdy Lightfoot Halfling with wind-browned skin, hazel eyes, and thick chestnut hair tied back with green cord. A faint scar crosses the bridge of the nose from an encounter with a feral boar. The ranger wears well-maintained scale mail over a moss-colored tunic, carries a longbow nearly as tall as they are, and keeps a carved wooden fox token tied to their belt.
Mannerisms
Pip speaks quickly when excited, pauses to sniff the air before entering unfamiliar places, and taps two fingers against their wooden fox token whenever making a difficult decision.
Personality
Warm, observant, and quietly courageous. Pip is quick to offer practical help, suspicious of grand promises, and fascinated by animal behavior. They enjoy being underestimated and often respond to threats with cheerful politeness before acting decisively.
Ideals
Community. No one should face the dangers of the world alone. The strong have a duty to make the road safer for everyone behind them.
Bonds
Greenbarrow is my home, and I will return whenever its people need protection. I also carry responsibility for the wolves I saved, believing their survival is partly my duty.
Flaws
I cannot resist helping creatures or people who remind me of the vulnerable, even when doing so is dangerous or foolish. I also become defensive and prickly whenever someone calls my heroism luck.
Quirks
Background
Pip Bramblefoot grew up in the farming hamlet of Greenbarrow, where most troubles arrived wearing hooves, claws, or muddy boots. Pip was never the strongest member of the community, but they knew every hedgerow, creek crossing, and fox trail for miles around. Their reputation changed when a pack of starving wolves descended on the village during an especially bitter winter. Pip tracked the pack to an abandoned quarry, discovered that poachers had wounded and trapped the animals, and led the villagers in rescuing both the wolves and the missing children who had wandered into the quarry. The story spread, and Pip became a folk hero almost by accident. Rather than settle into a life of praise and easy meals, Pip took up the bow and began ranging beyond Greenbarrow. They learned that the same greed and carelessness that harmed the wolves threatened forests, roads, and isolated settlements everywhere. Pip now travels as a ranger, helping ordinary people survive the wild and exposing those who exploit it. Their small stature makes them easy to underestimate, which suits them perfectly. Pip prefers to be remembered as a helpful neighbor, not a hero, though they secretly hope to build a safe refuge where people and wild creatures can coexist.
