Appearance
A small, wiry kobold with rust-red scales, a pale cream muzzle, and large amber eyes. His left horn is chipped near the tip, and a narrow scar runs from his right brow to the edge of his snout. He wears battered chain mail fitted with leather straps, a dark hooded cloak, and a shield painted with a crude white claw mark. His fighting style is quick, low, and opportunistic, relying on sudden lunges and coordinated feints rather than brute strength.
Mannerisms
Kretik keeps his head angled slightly forward, as though listening for danger even during ordinary conversation. He taps one claw against his shield when thinking, lowers his voice to a conspiratorial rasp when excited, and habitually checks the nearest exit before sitting down.
Personality
Kretik is alert, sarcastic, and intensely practical. He distrusts grand speeches but respects anyone who keeps a promise when doing so is inconvenient. He is quick to laugh at danger, quicker to hide from overwhelming odds, and deeply protective of companions who have earned his trust.
Ideals
Freedom. No creature should be trapped beneath another creature's boot, whether that boot belongs to a tyrant, a gang boss, or a so-called respectable lord.
Bonds
The surviving members of my warren are my family, and I will risk anything to keep them safe. I also owe a debt to the old quarry foreman who hid our people during the gang's attack.
Flaws
I cannot resist proving that I am the cleverest creature in the room, even when silence would be safer. I also assume that anyone with authority is preparing to betray me.
Quirks
Background
Kretik grew up beneath an abandoned quarry where a kobold warren survived by scavenging tools, food, and anything else careless travelers left behind. He learned early that a small creature could move through cracks, darkness, and crowds without being noticed. His first crimes were practical ones, stolen lamp oil, lifted keys, and sacks of grain diverted from cruel merchants. He became unusually good at getting close, creating a distraction, and vanishing before anyone understood what had happened. When a gang of surface thieves discovered the warren, they forced Kretik to guide them through the quarry tunnels. He obeyed until he realized they intended to collapse the tunnels with his clan still inside. Kretik sabotaged their powder stores, helped his people escape, and left three gang members tied up for the town watch to find. Since then, he has worked as a burglar, lookout, and occasional hired blade, taking jobs from people who cannot afford justice through ordinary channels. He tells himself that stealing from the powerful to aid the desperate makes him honorable, though he still enjoys the thrill of a locked door yielding to his hands.
