Appearance

Bak is an imposing orc standing seven feet tall with slate-grey skin and a jagged scar across his chin. He sports a dyed-red mohawk and wears sleeveless studded leather that shows off massive bicep tattoos of gear and cogwheels. His most striking feature is a custom-made, oversized acoustic guitar with a heavy iron headstock that he carries strapped to his back like a greataxe.

Mannerisms

Bak constantly taps out complex polyrhythms on his thighs with his fingers. He has a habit of hum-growling low notes whenever he is deep in thought.

Personality

Contrary to his intimidating stature, Bak is a soulful poet with a surprisingly soft-spoken nature when he isn't on stage. He is fiercely protective of his gnome companions and treats his music like a sacred calling. He often speaks in rhythmic metaphors and has a deep appreciation for the technical complexities of gnomish engineering.

Ideals

Harmony. The loudest noise is nothing without the right silence between the beats. I seek to find the perfect resonance between all things.

Bonds

The brothers Bakker, Leonidas, and Nichol are my true kin. I would face an army to ensure the band stays together and the music never stops.

Flaws

I have an explosive temper when someone insults the technical skill of my gnomish friends. My large hands often accidentally crush things I find delicate.

Quirks

Always refers to his guitar as 'The Iron String'.
Carries a tiny gnomish-sized stool just so he can sit properly when talking to his bandmates.

Background

Bak was born to the Iron Tusk tribe, a group of marauders who valued nothing but physical conquest. However, Bak found more beauty in the rhythmic clanging of the smithy than in the screams of the battlefield. When he was caught trading his rations for a lute stolen from a traveling merchant, he was cast out. Wandering the lowlands, he encountered three gnome brothers, Bakker, Leonidas, and Nichol, who were attempting to perform a concert in a ditch for their own amusement. Bak joined them, using his deep voice to provide a bassline they never knew they needed. Together, they formed 'Nichol L Bak'. The name was a pun on the youngest brother, Nichol, and the fact that Bak literally carried the group on his back during their travels between taverns. As the band's fame grew, Bak realized his music had magical potential. He uses his performances to weave Orcish grit with Gnomish ingenuity, creating a sound that can either bring a tavern to tears or shatter its windows.
