Appearance
Sazesh is a tall, heavily built male Tiefling with deep crimson skin, black ram horns sweeping back from his brow, and ember-orange eyes. He wears blackened chain mail beneath red-lacquered plate pieces, giving the impression of infernal plate armor while preserving his issued battlefield gear. His glaive has a dark haft and a broad blade etched with tight, angular runes that record oaths, victories, and names of the condemned. He moves with deliberate economy, placing each foot with military precision and never wasting a gesture. His hands are broad and callused, with flattened fingertips and darkened nails from years of weapon drills, armor maintenance, and rune rubbing.
Mannerisms
Sazesh stands unnervingly still when listening, his glaive held perfectly vertical beside him. He addresses people by rank or function before using their names, and he taps one horn with a metal knuckle whenever considering whether someone is lying.
Personality
Controlled, severe, and observant. Sazesh speaks softly because he expects to be obeyed without shouting. He is courteous toward competent people, patient with honest fear, and contemptuous of anyone who hides cowardice behind grand ideals. He keeps promises exactly as spoken, especially when doing so creates an advantage.
Ideals
Order. Every army, nation, and household collapses when people are permitted to place personal feeling above command. I will impose the order that lesser souls are too weak to maintain.
Bonds
My rune-covered glaive is the official record of my command. I will never allow it to be captured, dishonored, or wielded by someone who has not earned it.
Flaws
I believe obedience is usually more valuable than mercy, and I am quick to treat disagreement as insubordination. When my authority is challenged, I would rather escalate than admit uncertainty.
Quirks
Background
Sazesh was born in a fortress-barracks on the basalt frontier of the Nine Hells, where Tiefling children learned formation commands before they learned the names of their own ancestors. His mother served as a quartermaster and his father was a horned shock trooper, both loyal to the infernal army that fed and housed their family. Sazesh excelled at discipline, endurance, and the cold arithmetic of battlefield control. He was not the strongest recruit in his cohort, but he was the one who could hold a broken line while everyone else panicked. After years of service, Sazesh received command of a small execution company and a rune-marked glaive taken from a disgraced devil-forged armory. The weapon's inscriptions are not magical spells, but coded records of military law, binding oaths, and sanctioned deaths. His promotion to captain came with an assignment on the mortal plane, officially to recruit, intimidate, and establish a forward command. Unofficially, his superiors are testing whether his ambition can be turned against rival officers. Sazesh understands the truth and accepts it. He intends to return to the Nine Hells with enough victories, secrets, and obedient soldiers to make his rank permanent.
