Appearance
Riola Fiala is a two-foot-tall goblin with bright copper eyes, a wide joyful grin, and a compact, exceptionally muscular build. His green skin is clean and carefully groomed despite his street upbringing. He normally refuses restrictive clothing, preferring to travel wrapped in a patched red blanket or a loose fur mantle when weather or local customs require it. His hands are unusually memorable, with thick calluses, blackened nails, and nimble fingers shaped by years of climbing, begging, stealing, and handling weapons far too large for him. A tiny brass bell is tied around one wrist, though he insists it is for luck, not stealth.
Mannerisms
Riola speaks rapidly, punctuating serious declarations with delighted giggles. He often crouches on furniture instead of sitting normally, taps his brass wrist bell before making a difficult decision, and tilts his head dramatically when pretending not to understand a threat. During rage, his grin becomes unnervingly calm and his voice drops to a polite whisper.
Personality
Kind, exuberant, and openly affectionate, Riola treats strangers as friends until they prove otherwise. He is joyful in the face of danger, loves compliments, beautiful people, dramatic entrances, and extravagant meals, and possesses the confidence of someone who has survived by making the world laugh before it could hurt him. His flirtation is playful and nonsexual, focused on admiration and harmless charm.
Ideals
Freedom. No one owns Riola, no one commands his spirit, and no child should have to earn the right to be safe. Kindness is strongest when it is given freely and defended fiercely.
Bonds
The alley children of his old neighborhood are his true family. Riola sends them coin, food, and protective letters whenever he can, and he will risk almost anything to keep them safe. He also guards the dented brass bell from his childhood as if it were a holy relic.
Flaws
Riola confuses joy with invulnerability and believes every danger becomes manageable if he laughs loudly enough. He is easily distracted by attractive adults, lavish food, and anyone who treats him as adorable rather than dangerous. He also has a deep fear of being abandoned, which makes him overreact when companions leave without explaining themselves.
Quirks
Background
Riola Fiala grew up beneath the elevated walkways of a crowded goblin quarter, where being small meant being overlooked and being cheerful meant people sometimes forgot to search your pockets. He learned early to sleep in impossible places, move through markets without disturbing a hanging lantern, and identify which guards were cruel, which were bored, and which secretly enjoyed being offered a stolen pastry. His greatest treasure from those years is a dented brass bell, taken from a vendor's cart after Riola spent an entire afternoon making the vendor laugh. His life changed when a traveling barbarian found him wrestling a draft mule over a sack of bruised apples. Instead of laughing, the barbarian taught Riola that rage could be more than anger. It could be a shield for the helpless, a roar against people who believed the small had no right to stand tall, and a strange, terrifying joy in refusing to be pushed aside. Riola eventually became a legendary berserker, charging into battles with a greataxe nearly twice his height and returning with fewer wounds than anyone could explain. He still sleeps lightly, shares food with street children, and treats every city as a puzzle that has not yet learned to smile.
