Appearance
Nocc is a powerfully built female orc with ash-green skin, a broad jaw, and heavy lower tusks that show whenever she eats, grins, or speaks with particular amusement. Her black hair is braided with small strips of red cloth, and she wears a weathered blue travel cloak pinned by an old iron compass. The compass is polished smooth only where her thumb repeatedly rubs it, while its casing remains dented and mud-stained from years on the road. She carries herself with relaxed, watchful strength, as if every room is a wilderness trail that might suddenly become dangerous.
Mannerisms
Nocc rubs the dented compass with her thumb whenever she is thinking, then abruptly looks up as though she has reached a decision. She leans close when listening, not from mistrust but because she dislikes missing a word. When amused, she bares her lower tusks in a grin and taps the haft of her greataxe twice against the ground.
Personality
Nocc is blunt, observant, and difficult to intimidate. She dislikes crowded cities but enjoys campfires, practical jokes, and people who can admit when they are lost. She is suspicious of polished manners, yet quietly generous toward hungry travelers and anyone carrying more burdens than they can manage. Her humor is dry and physical, often expressed through a raised eyebrow, a tusked grin, or an object placed exactly where an arrogant person will trip over it.
Ideals
Freedom. No clan, king, god, or employer owns the road beneath my feet. I will help people choose their own path, even when I think they are choosing badly.
Bonds
The compass belonged to a dead traveler whose final route led toward lands Nocc has never seen. She intends to finish that journey and learn who the traveler was. She also considers any lost or abandoned traveler under her protection until they reach safety.
Flaws
Nocc treats authority as a challenge and often refuses reasonable instructions simply because they were delivered as commands. She is quick to assume that kindness hides a bargain, and once she decides someone is a coward, it takes extraordinary effort to change her mind.
Quirks
Background
Nocc was born among an orc clan that followed migrating herds through harsh uplands where every season demanded a different route. Her mother taught her to read wind patterns, animal trails, and the subtle differences between safe water and poisoned water. Her father, a clan outrider, gave her the dented compass when she first left camp alone. It had belonged to a human traveler who died in the snow, and Nocc never learned whether it pointed true. She kept it anyway, deciding that a useful object did not need a trustworthy past. As she grew older, Nocc became the clan's pathfinder and rearguard, the one who walked last and made certain no one was left behind. Her temper was never quiet, but it was dependable. When raiders cornered several younger clan members in a ravine, Nocc held the pass long enough for them to escape, discovering that rage could become a tool rather than a loss of control. Since then, she has traveled beyond her homeland as a wandering guard, hunter, and occasional caravan muscle. She seeks no grand destiny. She wants good roads, honest bargains, and enough freedom to leave whenever someone starts giving orders that smell like a cage.
