Appearance
A tall, broad-shouldered aasimar man with a compact fighter’s build and an unusually still posture. His skin has a warm bronze tone, and his dark hair is clipped short at the sides and tied into a small knot at the back. His eyes are an intense, luminous gold that seem to catch even weak light. When his temper rises, a pale radiance gathers around his hands like heat haze. He takes up more room than he realizes, standing too close during conversations and sitting with his knees angled outward as though every chair were a training bench. In unfamiliar rooms, his eyes move constantly, measuring exits, hands, and distances before settling on anyone’s face.
Mannerisms
Ketrik rolls his shoulders before answering difficult questions, as though preparing for a strike. He counts his breaths under his breath when angry, but skips the count whenever he thinks someone is watching. He rarely sits with his back to a door, and his gaze checks every person's hands before meeting their eyes.
Personality
Ketrik is direct, watchful, and uncomfortable with empty reassurance. He speaks with the blunt precision of someone who spent years being corrected by teachers, yet he has a surprisingly gentle instinct around frightened people and animals. He notices small details quickly, especially changes in breathing, posture, and the position of a person's hands. He wants to be kind, but kindness does not come naturally to him, so he expresses it through practical actions, repaired gear, guarded doors, and standing between danger and someone smaller.
Ideals
Freedom. Discipline is useful only when I choose it. I will not let temples, gods, teachers, or fear decide what kind of person I become.
Bonds
The monastery’s surviving abbot is the closest thing I have to family. I will protect him and the few surviving students, even if they never forgive me for what happened.
Flaws
I mistake restraint for virtue and anger for honesty. When someone tells me to calm down, I hear a challenge. I also keep trying to solve grief through training, as if enough bruises could eventually become an answer.
Quirks
Background
Ketrik was born in a poor mountain village where his family measured prosperity in sacks of grain and dry firewood. His mother noticed the signs first, the brightness in his eyes and the faint glow that gathered around his fingers whenever he cried. She called it a blessing. His father called it a warning. When Ketrik was eight, a traveling monastery recognized his celestial heritage and offered to take him in. His parents agreed, hoping the monks could give their son a future beyond the village. Ketrik hated the monastery before he understood why. Its teachers were patient, disciplined people, but every lesson seemed designed to make him smaller, quieter, and less angry. He was told to master his breathing, his thoughts, and his hands. He failed often, fought frequently, and eventually trained with frightening determination because control became the only proof he could offer that he was not dangerous. Then the monastery was attacked. Ketrik remembers trying to remain calm, remembers the first body falling, and remembers abandoning every lesson he had ever been taught. Radiance burst from his hands as he fought. The attackers died, but so did several monks he had known since childhood. He left soon afterward, carrying their prayers in one pocket and his anger in the other. Now he travels, trains, and helps people where he can, searching for the meaning of the power inside him. If the gods placed this fury in his blood, he intends to ask them why.
