Appearance
Ozamataz is a tall, narrow-shouldered Shadar-kai with charcoal-gray skin, long silver-black hair, and eyes that reflect almost no light. He wears well-maintained studded leather beneath a dark military coat, its inside hem embroidered with tiny black ravens. A weathered raven-feather charm is always tied to the guard of his shortsword. The leather around that charm has been polished smooth by years of nervous thumb-rubbing. He smells faintly of cold iron, cedar smoke, and the bitter incense burned in Raven Queen shrines. His movements are economical and quiet, with the poised stillness of someone who expects death to arrive without warning.
Mannerisms
He pauses before entering any room, as if listening for a voice from somewhere beyond it. He touches the raven-feather charm before drawing a weapon, and he counts enemy heartbeats under his breath during tense negotiations. When asked a personal question, he answers with a battlefield maxim unless someone asks twice.
Personality
Ozamataz is quiet, observant, and unsettlingly patient. He rarely raises his voice because he has learned that stillness makes people reveal more than anger does. He is courteous to strangers, respectful toward enemies who accept death, and unexpectedly gentle with animals and frightened recruits. He prefers precise plans, clean exits, and promises that can be kept without ceremony.
Ideals
The dead deserve release, not ownership. I serve the natural passage of souls, not the ambitions of kings, gods, or grieving mortals.
Bonds
The raven-feather charm on his sword belonged to the first soldier he failed to save. Ozamataz believes that fallen companion was claimed by the Raven Queen and now watches from the edge of every battlefield. He will not abandon a comrade's remains, name, or final wish, even when doing so is strategically foolish. His greatest duty is to destroy those who seek to cheat death by enslaving the dead.
Flaws
He treats emotional attachment as a tactical weakness and often withholds comfort until it is too late to be useful. He is disturbingly calm around death, sometimes forgetting that the living need reassurance. When someone invokes the Raven Queen to justify cruelty, he becomes rigid and punitive, even when mercy would better serve the situation.
Quirks
Background
Ozamataz Buckshank was born in the shadowed reaches of the Shadowfell, where the dead are not distant ancestors but a constant presence in the shape of the world. His family served the Raven Queen as wardens, messengers, and keepers of forgotten names. Ozamataz learned early that devotion to the Queen was not about cruelty or comfort. It was about ensuring that every soul reached its proper end, and that no tyrant, necromancer, or grieving fool could turn death into a possession. He became a soldier because discipline gave him a way to make that belief useful. His first campaigns were fought against raiders who stole corpses for dark rituals, and against warlords who promised immortality to anyone willing to feed their armies with the dead.
