Appearance
Kestek is a lean male elf with a compact, deliberate way of moving, as though every doorway and loose floorboard has already been measured. His ash-brown hair is cut short at the sides and left longer on top, usually tied back with a strip of faded red cloth. He dresses in well-maintained studded leather beneath a weathered green cloak, with a hand crossbow at his hip and a rapier kept low and close to the body. What people notice first is his attention. Kestek rarely looks directly at the person speaking to him. Instead, his eyes travel over hands, exits, windows, belts, and the spaces between nearby people. In conversation, he stands slightly too close, then steps away before anyone can object. His expression is calm, alert, and difficult to read, though a dry half-smile appears whenever someone makes a poor assumption about him.
Mannerisms
Kestek studies hands before faces, quietly counts doors and windows in every room, and shifts his weight toward the nearest exit whenever someone raises their voice. When thinking, he taps the side of his thumb against each fingertip in sequence. He rarely says yes or no immediately, preferring to answer with a precise question.
Personality
Kestek is observant, practical, and quietly protective. He prefers useful deeds to declarations, and he trusts people who repair what they break. He can be patient with the poor, the frightened, and the inexperienced, but he has little patience for vanity or official excuses. His humor is dry and often arrives several seconds after a conversation seems to have ended. He is not naturally warm, yet he remembers small details about people and acts on them without seeking credit.
Ideals
Self-determination. No ruler, guild, temple, or ancient bloodline has the right to decide what ordinary people may keep, believe, or become.
Bonds
The orchard villages that sheltered him are his true home. He secretly sends them money, tools, and information, and he will risk almost anything to prevent powerful outsiders from exploiting them again.
Flaws
Kestek assumes that every authority is either corrupt, incompetent, or both. He will sabotage a reasonable plan if it depends on trusting an official, and he sometimes mistakes emotional distance for objectivity. When frightened, he becomes controlling and starts making decisions for everyone nearby without asking.
Quirks
Background
Kestek was raised among the orchard villages bordering an old elven woodland, where his family tended trees, repaired irrigation channels, and traded fruit with human caravans. He learned early that the people who kept a settlement alive were rarely the ones named in songs. His elven heritage made him a curiosity to outsiders, but among the villagers he was simply the quiet boy who could climb any wall, hear a cart arrive before the dogs barked, and remember which merchant had shorted a farmer three summers earlier. When a band of armed tax collectors began seizing harvests and taking villagers as forced labor, Kestek used his knowledge of the roads, storehouses, and abandoned watch paths to organize resistance. He stole ledgers, redirected patrols, sabotaged wagons, and exposed the magistrate's illegal dealings. The villagers eventually drove the collectors out, and Kestek became a folk hero despite his discomfort with the title. He left soon afterward, partly to avoid becoming a political symbol and partly because he had discovered that the magistrate's records pointed toward a wider network of corruption. Now he travels as a rogue and investigator, helping ordinary people when he can, selling his skills when he must, and trusting neither institutions nor rebellions that demand absolute loyalty.
