Appearance
Hua Mei is a lean fire genasi woman with warm ember-toned skin, faint heat-haze flickers around her when she is annoyed, and a deliberately maintained embroidered eyepatch over her missing right eye. Her hair is kept practical and slightly wild, her stance is coiled and ready, and she often dresses in monkish travel clothes softened by prayer cords, worn wraps, and a look that says she has already judged the room and found it lacking. A tiny pouch of sand seems to live in her clothing no matter how many times it is emptied.
Mannerisms
She speaks in dramatic declarations, punctuates irritation with broad flared gestures, and tilts her head as if inviting the world to argue with her. When amused, she gives a dry side glance that feels more like a verdict than a joke. When deeply focused, she absentmindedly rubs a thumb against the edge of the eyepatch or checks the little pocket of sand she always carries.
Personality
Cocky, dryly sarcastic, and subtly arrogant, Hua Mei treats most conversation like a duel she expects to win. Her contempt is sharp enough to border on bullying, but it is rarely cruel without cause, and if someone vulnerable is threatened her temper becomes volcanic. Beneath the roughness is a strangely tender streak, a girl who will happily pick flowers on the roadside, then turn around and declare war on a bully for having the wrong expression.
Ideals
Protection is the only neutrality that matters. If the weak are safe and the cruel are checked, then the universe can sort out the rest for itself. She believes discipline should be sharp enough to cut through hypocrisy, and that mercy without boundaries is just another kind of failure.
Bonds
She owes her discipline, and much of her life, to the elderly monk who took her in and taught her that fury is only useful when aimed at cruelty. She protects the helpless with an almost absurd intensity, as if every small injustice is a personal insult that must be answered immediately. She keeps her teacher's sayings close, her party closer, and if anyone threatens either she will respond with startling, theatrical overcommitment.
Flaws
She has no chill, and when she decides something is unjust, she may escalate it into comically excessive retaliation before anyone can stop her. Her cockiness sometimes curdles into needling cruelty, especially toward people she thinks are lazy, foolish, or dishonest. She also has the irritating habit of acting as if every training session is a life-or-death trial, which can make her the most exhausting ally in any camp.
Quirks
Background
Hua Mei was orphaned before she was old enough to remember her parents clearly, and the world taught her early that pity was unreliable but survival was not. While other children learned songs and manners, she learned how to bite back, how to sneer first, and how to keep moving when the street turned cruel. The loss of her right eye came later, in a stupid and unforgettable accident, a fall, a hairpin, blood, screaming, and the kind of shame that hardens into legend when you are too young to properly understand it. She wore the wound like a challenge after that, and the embroidered eyepatch she still uses as an adult became half shield, half warning sign.
“While other children learned songs and manners, she learned how to bite back, how to sneer first, and how to keep moving when the street turned cruel.”
