Appearance
Aurelia is a statuesque drow woman with obsidian skin, long white hair braided with silver spider charms, and vivid crimson eyes. Her lightly armored black robes are cut in the style of a surface-world samurai's traveling attire, with layered leather panels, a high collar, and a broad sash concealing several small spider nests. A curved rapier rests at her hip, its blade etched with a stylized spiderweb. Tiny spiders frequently emerge from her sleeves, crawl across her shoulders, and disappear beneath her robes.
Mannerisms
Aurelia pauses before answering difficult questions, watching the nearest spider rather than the person speaking. She bows with precise, formal movements before drawing her blade. During interrogations, she gently brushes invisible dust from her sleeves while allowing silence to grow uncomfortable.
Personality
Aurelia is poised, observant, and intensely self-controlled. She speaks softly because she expects others to listen, and she treats courtesy as a weapon rather than a kindness. She is fascinated by codes of conduct, especially when they can be used to expose hypocrisy. Around her spiders, however, her severity gives way to tender concentration, and she speaks to them as trusted colleagues.
Ideals
Obedience. Freedom is a delusion spun by the weak. True worth is proven by perfect submission to Lolth and absolute loyalty to the web that sustains us.
Bonds
House Malice gave me purpose, status, and survival. I will protect its reputation, even if doing so requires destroying members of the family who have become liabilities. My spider colony is also sacred to me, and I will risk much to recover any spider taken from my care.
Flaws
Aurelia interprets disagreement as concealed treason and cannot resist investigating even harmless inconsistencies. She is vain about her beauty, her discipline, and her perceived resemblance to a surface samurai. When contradicted, she becomes icily courteous, which is usually the first warning that someone is about to be tested, exposed, or punished.
Quirks
Background
Aurelia Malice was born beneath the web-shadow of House Malice and was marked for service to Lolth before she could speak. Her earliest lessons were not in etiquette, but in identifying hesitation, concealed resentment, and the faint tremor of a liar's voice. She became an inquisitor because she possessed the patience to listen longer than her suspects could endure. Her beauty opened doors, her noble name made others careless, and her devotion gave every accusation the weight of holy judgment. She learned to cultivate spiders as informants and companions, raising them in hidden compartments within her robes and interpreting their movements as signs of Lolth's attention. During an investigation into a smuggling ring, Aurelia discovered an illustrated account of warriors from the surface world who followed a rigid code of honor and fought with curved blades. She found the contradiction irresistible. To her, bushido became another form of submission, a beautiful discipline that could turn personal pride into obedience. She adopted the style, calling her code the Eightfold Web, and began treating every duel as a test of spiritual purity. Aurelia now travels as an agent of House Malice, hunting heretics, traitors, and anyone whose loyalty appears insufficiently absolute. She believes every secret eventually catches in Lolth's web, and she intends to be the hand that pulls it tight.
