Appearance
Aurelia is a statuesque drow woman with obsidian skin, long white hair braided with silver spider charms, and luminous crimson eyes. Her lightly armored robes are cut in the style of a surface-world samurai's ceremonial attire, layered over fitted leather armor and marked with the eight-legged sigil of House Malice. A curved rapier rests at her hip, while several living spiders move freely beneath her sleeves, collar, and sash. Her beauty is deliberate and intimidating, enhanced by immaculate grooming, controlled posture, and a smile that never quite reaches her eyes.
Mannerisms
Aurelia pauses before answering questions, as if listening to a voice only she can hear. She often tilts her head toward the spiders in her robes before making a judgment. When displeased, she slowly adjusts the knot of her sash rather than raising her voice.
Personality
Aurelia is poised, observant, ceremonious, and intensely self-controlled. She speaks with the measured courtesy of a noble addressing a lesser-ranked suspect, even while delivering a threat. She enjoys examining small inconsistencies in speech and behavior, and she treats every conversation as an interrogation disguised as etiquette.
Ideals
Devotion. Doubt is the first thread in the web of heresy. I will cut it before it can spread, and I will serve Lolth and House Malice without hesitation.
Bonds
House Malice is the web that gave Aurelia status, purpose, and protection. She will destroy anyone who threatens its reputation, even if doing so requires sacrificing a favored family member. She is also fiercely protective of the spider colony hidden in her robes, believing that its survival is a sacred trust placed upon her by Lolth.
Flaws
Aurelia cannot tolerate uncertainty. When evidence contradicts her beliefs, she assumes the evidence has been corrupted and becomes increasingly ruthless in forcing events to fit her interpretation. She is also vain about her beauty and composure, taking any insult to either as a direct challenge to Lolth's chosen instrument.
Quirks
Background
Aurelia Malice was born beneath the shadow of Lolth's web and was taught from infancy that faith was not a private virtue, but a weapon used to separate the worthy from the weak. Her earliest lessons involved memorizing the names of condemned heretics, identifying the scent of fear, and watching spiders react to hidden movement. When a household tutor was accused of concealing surface-world sympathies, Aurelia discovered the truth by following a trail of tiny web strands through the servant passages. The tutor was executed, and Aurelia was praised for her devotion. From that day onward, she understood that investigation was a form of worship. During an inquiry into illicit surface trade, Aurelia encountered an intercepted collection of foreign accounts describing samurai, disciplined warriors who treated obedience, ritual, and personal honor as instruments of authority. She found the aesthetic fascinating and adapted it to drow nobility, wearing layered robes over light armor and adopting a curved blade as a symbol of controlled violence. Her version of Bushido is not merciful or noble in the surface-world sense. To Aurelia, honor means serving one's rightful superior without hesitation, never allowing doubt to become visible, and making punishment so precise that it resembles art. Aurelia now serves House Malice as an inquisitor, rooting out dissent, forbidden alliances, and insufficiently enthusiastic worship of Lolth. A colony of spiders lives within her clothing, fed by scraps of meat and encouraged to explore rooms before she enters them. She considers their movements divine omens, though whether Lolth truly guides them or Aurelia merely interprets instinct as revelation is a question she would punish anyone for asking. Her current assignment has led her away from Menzoberranzan, where rumors speak of a conspiracy that may involve both rival houses and a secret powerful enough to threaten the authority of Lolth's priestesses.
