Appearance
Garret is a broad shouldered man with skin tanned by both the sun and the heat of a forge. He has thick, calloused hands and short brown hair that is often messy. His jaw is square and usually covered in light stubble. He wears his chain mail with the comfort of someone used to heavy labor, and his clothing is simple, sturdy, and well worn.
Mannerisms
Garret frequently rubs his palms together as if warming them or wiping away soot. He has a habit of nodding slowly and rhythmically while listening to others speak.
Personality
I judge people by their actions, not their words. I am incredibly patient, a trait learned at the anvil, and I find it hard to turn my back on someone in need. I speak plainly and often use metaphors related to iron and smithing.
Ideals
Destiny. There is a spark of greatness in every person, and we have a duty to stand up and use that spark when the world goes dark.
Bonds
My village of Oakhaven is the only home I have ever known, and everything I do is to ensure its people remain free.
Flaws
I am far too quick to trust anyone who claims to be an underdog or a victim of the powerful, which makes me easy to manipulate.
Quirks
Background
Garret grew up in the rural village of Oakhaven, where he served as the local blacksmith. Life was quiet until a regional lord, Baron Kessel, attempted to seize the community's grain reserves during a particularly harsh winter. While the village elders argued, Garret grabbed his heaviest hammer and stood in the path of the Baron's tax collectors. His quiet defiance inspired the other villagers to pick up their tools and stand with him. The standoff lasted for three days without a drop of blood spilled, ending when the collectors realized they could not intimidate the town without a massacre they could not justify. Garret became a local hero overnight, celebrated in songs by the local tavern keepers. However, his new fame brought danger. Realizing that the Baron would eventually send professional soldiers to make an example of Oakhaven if he remained, Garret took his tools and a heavy blade and left under the cover of night. He travels now to build his own strength and wealth, hoping to find a way to eventually protect his home from the Baron's long reaching shadow for good. He is a soldier not by choice, but by necessity.
