Appearance
A broad-shouldered goliath standing nearly eight feet tall, Ketrak has slate-gray skin marked with pale geometric birth patterns across his arms, neck, and cheekbones. His black hair is braided with copper rings, and a jagged scar crosses his left eyebrow. He wears battered hide armor over a woven wool tunic, carries a massive greataxe, and keeps a farmer's iron pot strapped to his pack. His expression is stern at rest, but his dark eyes are quick to soften around children, animals, and anyone working with their hands.
Mannerisms
Ketrak speaks slowly and precisely, as though each word were a stone he has chosen before setting it down. He taps the haft of his greataxe when thinking, crouches to speak with small children, and always checks the hinges and locks of a room before he sits down.
Personality
Ketrak is practical, protective, and unexpectedly patient with honest mistakes. He prefers useful work to ceremony, asks direct questions, and has a dry sense of humor that appears most often when danger is close. He distrusts polished speeches but respects anyone who keeps showing up when the work becomes difficult.
Ideals
Freedom. No one should be owned, starved, or bullied into obedience. A strong person has a duty to make it harder for the cruel to hurt the weak.
Bonds
The farmers of Durn Vey saved his life during the famine, and Ketrak will cross any distance to protect their families and their freedom. He also carries a small iron key from the old grain storehouse as a reminder that locked doors are often the first tool of oppression.
Flaws
Ketrak has little patience for compromise when he believes someone is being exploited. He can turn a solvable dispute into a dangerous confrontation, especially when an official hides behind laws written for the powerful. He also fears being seen as useless, and sometimes takes reckless risks simply to prove that he still has a place among stronger, more celebrated warriors.
Quirks
Background
Ketrak was raised among a scattered goliath clan that traded wool, salt, and worked iron between high mountain settlements. Though he possessed the strength expected of his people, he was never the clan's best hunter or climber. His gift was persistence. He could repair a broken cart, calm a frightened mule, and carry a wounded traveler through snow long after stronger warriors had grown tired. The elders called him useful, which Ketrak privately considered the finest compliment they could give. His life changed when a lowland magistrate seized the valley's grain stores and forced the farmers to work through a winter of hunger. Ketrak watched people who had welcomed him go without food while armed enforcers guarded full warehouses. He responded in the only language the enforcers understood. With a farmer's shovel, a woodcutter's axe, and a temper he had spent years keeping under control, he broke the storehouse gates and led the villagers in reclaiming their own grain. The act made him a folk hero, but it also made the magistrate his enemy. Now Ketrak travels from settlement to settlement, taking work where he can find it, defending those who cannot defend themselves, and learning how to turn righteous anger into something more disciplined than destruction.
