Appearance
Panniz is a lean, athletic aasimar woman with warm brown skin, sharp amber eyes, and long black hair braided with small brass rings. A faint silver glow gathers around her pupils when she is angry or frightened. She wears battered chain mail beneath a weather-stained blue surcoat, carries a broad shield marked with a deliberately scratched-out heraldic emblem, and keeps a longsword at her hip. Her celestial heritage is subtle but unmistakable, appearing as a soft radiance beneath her skin and a voice that occasionally carries an otherworldly resonance.
Mannerisms
Panniz checks every doorway and counts exits before sitting down. She rolls her shoulders before drawing her weapon, taps the rim of her shield when thinking, and addresses military veterans by rank even when she dislikes them.
Personality
Panniz is alert, blunt, and fiercely self-reliant. She has a soldier's instinct for danger but dislikes rigid discipline, especially when it is used to excuse cruelty. She is unexpectedly gentle with frightened animals, injured recruits, and anyone who admits they are afraid. Her humor is dry, her patience is short, and her loyalty is powerful once earned.
Ideals
Freedom. No commander, god, kingdom, or prophecy owns my loyalty. I will defend people who need defending, but I choose who deserves my sword.
Bonds
When her old company was betrayed and abandoned during a retreat, Panniz was one of the few survivors. She still carries the unit's cracked standard clasp and intends to find the officer who sold them out. She also feels responsible for the young soldiers and camp followers who escaped with her, even though she insists she owes them nothing.
Flaws
Panniz distrusts anyone who speaks too confidently about destiny, law, or divine purpose. She is quick to abandon a cause once its leaders become corrupt, and she often mistakes stubborn independence for moral courage. When confronted with her own fear, she becomes reckless, picking the most dangerous path simply to prove that she still controls her life.
Quirks
Background
Panniz was born during a siege, beneath a sky split by fire and divine light. Her mother, a field medic, swore that a radiant figure stood over the newborn tent and drove frightened soldiers away from the wounded. Panniz grew up among marching columns, supply wagons, and ruined forts, learning early that survival depended less on grand speeches than on keeping your feet, watching the road, and knowing when an order deserved to be ignored. She became a scout and shield-bearer, valued for her speed, nerve, and talent for appearing wherever the battle was worst.
