Appearance
A lean male wood elf with copper-brown skin, long dark hair tied with a faded military cord, and steady hazel eyes. He carries himself with the quiet balance of someone trained to sleep in armor, though his relaxed posture takes up more space than he realizes. His leather armor is carefully maintained except for one softened, pale patch over the left shoulder, worn smooth by years of carrying a soldier's satchel. A battered brass gaming token hangs from his belt, polished bright only where his thumb repeatedly rubs it.
Mannerisms
Tavren positions himself where he can see every exit and unconsciously measures rooms in paces. When thinking, he rubs the brass gaming token at his belt with his thumb. He addresses frightened people in the same calm, clipped cadence he once used with young soldiers.
Personality
Tavren is patient, observant, and quietly protective. He dislikes speeches and prefers useful actions, such as repairing a strap, checking a road, or standing between danger and someone less prepared. He is slow to laugh but quick to offer dry humor when tension threatens to break a group. His kindness is practical and sometimes overbearing, because he assumes that if he notices a danger, he is responsible for preventing it.
Ideals
Mercy. Strength is only honorable when it is used to give the helpless another chance to stand.
Bonds
I carry the insignia of my old company and will risk almost anything to protect its surviving members, especially those who believe I abandoned them.
Flaws
I cannot leave a problem unresolved once I believe I am responsible for it, even when fixing it will make the situation worse. I also trust clear orders more than uncertain judgment, which makes the fiend's subtle suggestions dangerously effective.

Background
Tavren Orsik served as a scout and signal-runner in a border company where elven patience mattered more than elven grace. He learned to read weather from the color of distant hills, to count marching feet through stone, and to keep frightened recruits moving by speaking plainly when officers reached for grander words. His unit survived a disastrous retreat only because Tavren followed a voice heard beneath the battlefield noise, a calm whisper that guided him through smoke and falling timber to a sealed shrine beneath an abandoned watchtower. The voice belonged to a fiend imprisoned in the shrine, an ancient bargainer who offered Tavren the strength to break open the doors and lead the survivors out. Tavren accepted, but demanded that the fiend's power be used to preserve lives rather than claim them. The bargain was imperfect, and the fiend still waits for opportunities to twist his good intentions into costly victories. Tavren left the army with his rank intact but his trust diminished, determined to learn the limits of his pact before someone else pays for it. He now travels as a protector, carrying the old company's insignia and the brass gaming token of a fallen sergeant who taught him that courage is often just one more step taken after fear has already arrived.
