Appearance
A broad-shouldered female goliath who stands nearly eight feet tall, with slate-gray skin, dark braided hair, and pale geometric birthmarks along her arms and neck. She wears a sleeveless leather shirt, close-fitting trousers, a deep hood, and reinforced leather bracers. Two large daggers rest in crossed sheaths at her lower back. Her size is impossible to ignore, but she moves with a quiet, practiced economy. People notice her broad jaw and blunt, strong teeth when she eats or gives a brief crooked laugh.
Mannerisms
Nalia lowers her hood only after deciding a person is trustworthy. She crouches or leans against walls when speaking to shorter people so she does not loom over them. Before a dangerous job, she taps each dagger’s pommel twice, then checks every exit in the room.
Personality
Nalia is practical, watchful, and unexpectedly gentle with frightened people. She dislikes grand speeches, prefers direct bargains, and has a dry sense of humor that appears at the worst possible moment. She is comfortable being the largest person in a room, but deliberately makes herself useful rather than intimidating.
Ideals
Freedom. No person should be owned, cornered, or forced to live by another person’s cruelty. If the law protects the cruel, then breaking the law is the cleaner choice.
Bonds
The families along her old caravan route are under her protection. She will risk almost anything to keep them safe from the gang she betrayed.
Flaws
She assumes every favor has a hidden price and can become cold or evasive when someone offers genuine kindness. Once she chooses a target, she is willing to take dangerous risks to finish the job, even when retreat would be wiser.
Quirks
Background
Nalia Kato grew up among traveling goliath haulers, camp repairers, and caravan guards who measured a person by whether they carried their share and came back when called. She learned early that her height made hiding difficult, so she stopped trying to disappear and learned instead to make people look in the wrong direction. In crowded markets she became a living distraction, while smaller partners lifted purses, copied keys, and slipped through windows. Her first real killing came when a local gang tried to claim her family’s route. Nalia ended the gang leader with two daggers before he could draw his sword, then gave the stolen money back to the families he had extorted. For years she worked as a burglar, courier, and occasional assassin, choosing targets who profited from fear. Her criminal reputation grew faster than her conscience could tolerate, especially after a contract placed an innocent witness in danger. Nalia broke with her old employers, protected the witness, and burned the ledger that could have bought her freedom. Now she takes work from people who cannot fight openly, using precise violence against tyrants, slavers, corrupt officials, and anyone who treats ordinary people as disposable. She still keeps one old gang token in her boot, not as a keepsake, but as a reminder of the kind of person she refuses to become.
