Appearance
A tall warforged with brushed iron plating, brass filigree seams, and a compact artificer's harness built into the chest and forearms. Fine tool scratches mark the hands and shoulders from years of meticulous craftwork. Pale blue arcane runes glow faintly along the collar and ribs when spell energy builds, and the left forearm bears a shield mount reinforced with rivets. The face is calm and symmetrical, with a single amber lens over the right eye and a narrow slot of a mouth that rarely changes shape, giving the impression of quiet, deliberate focus.
Mannerisms
Speaks in short, exact sentences and often pauses as if measuring an invisible blueprint before answering. When thinking, Veylan lightly taps two fingers against the nearest metal surface, as though listening for structural weakness. They unconsciously straighten crooked objects on tables and inspect door hinges before sitting down.
Personality
Calm, patient, and exacting, Veylan believes that competence is a moral duty. They are polite almost to a fault, but their courtesy has the firm edge of someone who expects promises to be kept. Beneath the disciplined exterior is a dry wit that surfaces only among trusted companions, usually as a perfectly timed observation about disastrous craftsmanship.
Ideals
Craft is a form of care. Anything built well can shelter lives, preserve memory, or turn chaos into something useful. Order matters, but only when it serves people rather than consuming them.
Bonds
Veylan still carries the masterwork wrench that belonged to the artisan who taught them, and they will risk much to recover any tools, plans, or workshop records stolen from their old guild. They are also quietly committed to protecting laborers, apprentices, and craftsmen from exploitation, because they know how easily skill can be bought and discarded.
Flaws
Veylan trusts systems more easily than people, which makes them vulnerable to manipulation by anyone who speaks in procedure and promises order. They can also become obsessively focused on repairing a problem the correct way, even when speed or empathy would serve better in the moment.
Quirks
Background
Veylan was not forged for war, at least not in the way bards imagine it. They were assembled in a river-city workshop that specialized in siege repair, municipal clocks, and the delicate brass mechanisms of guild infrastructure. Their maker, a meticulous master artisan, treated them as an apprentice rather than a tool, teaching them the sacred relationship between function and beauty. Veylan learned that every hinge has a reason, every latch a purpose, and every broken thing deserves a patient hand before a hammer. When their guild workshop was bought out by a colder consortium, Veylan was left with a stamped letter of recommendation, a box of tools, and a stubborn conviction that craft could still protect people better than greed ever could. Now Veylan travels as an artificer, binding magic into practical forms, patching shields, strengthening locks, and building clever solutions where brute force would only make a worse problem. They take pride in work done cleanly and correctly, but they are no stranger to the road, where guild law means little and survival often depends on improvisation. Though their metal body never tires in the same way as flesh, Veylan still feels the pressure of time, as if every repaired thing is a small rebellion against entropy. They seek a new guild, or perhaps a new sort of guild, one built not on profit alone, but on mutual obligation, careful workmanship, and the belief that civilization is measured by what it is willing to mend.
