Appearance
Trevvan is a broad-shouldered human in his mid fifties, built heavily through decades of marching, drilling, and fighting in armor. His beard is short, thick, and more gray than brown, and a distinct scar runs along the line of his jaw. He wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a weathered surcoat, carries a shield marked with faded campaign colors, and keeps a cigar clenched between his teeth whenever circumstances permit. When standing at rest, he plants both feet squarely and places his weight slightly forward, as if expecting the ground itself to give way. His eyes habitually move to doorways, balconies, hands, and exits before settling on a speaker.
Mannerisms
He checks the nearest exit before sitting, taps ash from his cigar with the edge of one thumbnail, and uses clipped military phrases when irritated. Before a dangerous plan, he quietly counts the people present and then counts them again after the danger has passed.
Personality
Trevvan is controlled, observant, and sparing with praise. He speaks to nobles, laborers, and monsters with the same measured tone, judging people by whether they keep their word and hold their position when frightened. Beneath his stern professionalism is a patient protective instinct, especially toward inexperienced companions who remind him of soldiers he failed to save.
Ideals
Duty. A leader's first obligation is to bring people through the danger alive, even when the reward is poor and no one will remember who did it.
Bonds
He carries the names of his dead company members in a weatherproof ledger and considers their families his unfinished responsibility.
Flaws
He distrusts improvisation when lives are at stake and can become controlling when others ignore a plan. Trevvan also keeps old promises long after they have ceased to be practical, especially promises made to the dead.
Quirks
Background
Trevvan Carvarlos spent most of his adult life in other people's wars, first as a disciplined infantryman and later as the captain of a company that survived by being better organized than its enemies. He learned early that courage was useful, but preparation was what brought people home. His company became known for holding ugly ground, escorting refugees through contested country, and accepting contracts that paid less than they should because no one else wanted them. Trevvan kept meticulous records of every fallen soldier, including those whose employers preferred to forget them. In his fifties, Trevvan has become less interested in glory and more interested in making certain that young fighters are not spent carelessly by old nobles and richer mercenary captains. A failed contract left him with a scar along his jaw and a company reduced to a handful of survivors. Rather than retire, he now travels with a shield, sword, and a dwindling list of debts owed to the dead. He treats adventuring as another kind of campaign, one where the objectives are unclear, the allies are strange, and the consequences of poor leadership are still paid in blood.
