Appearance
Edda Quillstep is a slender Air Genasi woman with blue-gray skin that fades almost white around her hands and throat. Her dark hair lifts in a constant, gentle current, even indoors, and loose strands sometimes drift across her face before settling. She stands with one heel slightly raised and keeps her weight on the balls of her feet, as if prepared to move with a sudden gust. Within moments of meeting her, people notice that her eyes rarely stay on the speaker. They track windows, doorways, chimneys, hanging lamps, and every other route by which air moves through a room. She wears practical scholar's robes beneath a fitted leather harness, with silver ink pots and folded notes secured at her belt.
Mannerisms
When thinking, Edda writes a single word in the air with one finger and watches the invisible current erase it. She pauses before answering difficult questions, not because she is uncertain, but because she is listening for changes in the room. She rarely sits with her back to a door.
Personality
Edda is precise, curious, and unexpectedly warm toward frightened people. She treats conversation like research, asking careful questions and remembering small details others overlook. Her humor is dry and sometimes arrives several seconds late. She distrusts certainty more than she distrusts monsters, because certainty has caused her more trouble than any creature.
Ideals
Knowledge belongs in motion. A fact locked away from the world becomes a weapon in the hands of whoever finds the key.
Bonds
The riverside archive that raised me must never be destroyed, censored, or claimed by a tyrant. I carry its missing catalogue in my memory.
Flaws
I cannot leave a mystery alone, even when solving it will endanger people who trusted me. I also assume that anyone who refuses to explain themselves is hiding something profound.

Background
Edda Quillstep was raised in a riverside archive where her mother catalogued maps and her mortal father repaired weather instruments. Edda's Air Genasi nature made her an unsettling child to the other apprentices. Pages turned when she entered a room, candles leaned toward her, and she could hear the difference between a sealed vault and one with a hidden draft. She became a patient researcher, studying dead languages, ancient weather records, and the marginal notes that respectable scholars dismissed as superstition. Her warlock's pact began with a locked folio found behind a false shelf. The book contained no name, only a series of questions written in different hands across centuries. When Edda answered the final question aloud, the room lost all sound for three heartbeats. A presence in the silence offered her power in exchange for continued investigation. She accepted, believing knowledge freely given was preferable to knowledge hoarded. The pact has made her a Great Old One warlock, granting her uncanny insight and mind-touching magic, but she has never determined whether her patron is guiding her toward the truth or merely teaching her how to become useful to it. She now travels wherever strange phenomena, vanished civilizations, or forbidden books leave a disturbance in the world's invisible currents.
“Edda's Air Genasi nature made her an unsettling child to the other apprentices.”
