Appearance
Vlad is a broad-shouldered half-elf with a weathered face, close-cropped dark hair, and a gray streak at one temple. His green eyes are sharp and perpetually watchful, with a thin scar running from his left eyebrow to his cheek. He wears reinforced chain mail beneath a heavy leather coat, a steel shield etched with Wingforged insignia, and a pair of articulated mechanical wings mounted to a rune-inscribed harness. The wings are built from dark alloy, brass joints, and blue-white arcane crystals, and they unfold with a grinding whine before carrying him into the air.
Mannerisms
Vlad checks buckles, straps, and weapon fastenings whenever he is nervous. He speaks in short, measured sentences, usually while working with his hands. Before entering a dangerous place, he silently counts exits and viable defensive positions. Around Anastasia, his usual stern expression softens, though he becomes visibly awkward when she praises him.
Personality
Vlad is disciplined, protective, and quietly compassionate. Years of war have made him gruff and difficult to impress, but they have also made him deeply attentive to danger and unusually patient with civilians, recruits, and anyone learning a difficult skill. He prefers practical acts of kindness over grand speeches. He trusts craftsmanship because it rewards honesty, effort, and care, qualities he hopes to find in people as well.
Ideals
Peace is not weakness. It is a structure that must be engineered, defended, and repaired every day. No nation should need to destroy another simply to feel secure.
Bonds
Anastasia, the high priestess he loves, and the fragile united nation they both swore to protect.
Flaws
Vlad believes every problem can be solved by becoming stronger, better armored, or more prepared. He has difficulty accepting help, especially from people he considers less experienced. His fear of another war makes him suspicious of political compromises, and when Anastasia is threatened, his judgment can collapse into reckless violence.
Quirks
Background
Vlad was raised in the foundries of the Wingforged, a civilization that learned to imitate the freedom of natural flight through enchanted mechanical wings. His first memories are of hot metal, oil-stained gloves, and the thunderous rhythm of armor being forged for war. By his early teens, he had already begun military training, and by adulthood he had become a veteran of the long conflict against the Skyforged, whose aasimar, aarakocra, and other naturally airborne warriors seemed to embody everything the Wingforged had struggled to achieve. Vlad never hated the people he fought, but he understood too well how easily fear became doctrine and doctrine became slaughter. His talent for repairing armor and weapons eventually led him to the artificers attached to the army, where he learned to weave defensive magic into steel and to turn battlefield scrap into miracles. Vlad became a Battle Smith, fighting beside his steel defender and personally maintaining the mechanical wings that carried him through the sky. When the war ended, he swore himself to the protection of the new united nation, determined to make certain that peace would not be another brief pause before violence. During the first years of rebuilding, he met Anastasia, a beautiful aasimar high priestess of the Skyforged. Her compassion challenged his suspicion, her faith softened his bitterness, and their love became a living symbol of the reconciliation Vlad had once believed impossible. He now fights not for Wingforged supremacy or Skyforged pride, but for a future in which no child is taught that another people must be feared.
